Editorial Reviews

From the Actor

I often get asked, "What kind of documentaries do you produce?" After trying, somewhat uncomfortably, to avoid characterizing my work, I provide an easy answer like "humanistic documentaries," or maybe "socially-oriented films." Inevitably, however, I have to mention that I often produce films about so-called 'alternative' medicines. . .and that usually clears the room.

WE BECOME SILENT is the second documentary in a row I have produced about health freedom issues. It is also the second time I have been blessed to have a world-class narrator interpret my writing. For LET TRUTH BE THE BIAS it was the voice of God Himself — James Earl Jones. For WE BECOME SILENT, the eloquence of Dame Judi Dench is beautiful and touching, with a power so subtle that it haunts me each time I hear her enunciate a phrase. Her magnificence as an actress cannot be overstated, as she is truly in a class by herself. Maybe that's why they call her "Dame."

The issues surrounding medical freedom of choice are daunting and controversial: the people in power (conventional medicine) often will not admit that they enjoy a monopoly in healthcare. I honestly try to make films for people who have no voice — and that is the best job on the planet, as far as I’m concerned. Then there is the added bonus when begrudgingly, many mainstream doctors express their admiration for my work.

In that sense, each film has been a victory of sorts: giving credence to those whose opinions are ignored — and coercing those in power to sit down and talk.

I hope it is always that way.

Product Description

International award-winning filmmaker Kevin P. Miller (LET TRUTH BE THE BIAS; THE PROMISED LAND) unveils the worldwide threat to medical freedom of choice in WE BECOME SILENT: The Last Days of Health Freedom.'

WE BECOME SILENT details the ongoing attempts by multinational pharmaceutical interests, giant food companies, and government agencies to limit the public’s access to herbs, vitamins and other therapies. The film highlights the U.S. government’s complicity in suppressing the truth about the effectiveness of alternative/complementary medicines, and outlines the international plan to eliminate freedom of choice in healthcare through the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

Narrated by Dame Judi Dench, the noted UK actress who has won multiple Golden Globe awards and dozens of other honors throughout her prestigious career, WE BECOME SILENT is a powerful statement about the dominance of multinational corporations over personal freedoms. The film describes the ominous bureaucratic shadow being cast by Codex, in concert with the World Trade Organization and others — and the challenges consumers face in trying to repel these monoliths from their daily lives.

WE BECOME SILENT features the only known video from inside a Codex meeting, exclusive interviews with delegates to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials, two U.S. Congressmen, actor Mel Gibson, and consumer activists from throughout the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT DOCUMENTARY - AN AMAZING STORY!, January 3, 2006
By
This review is from: We Become Silent (DVD)
I saw Miller's LET TRUTH BE THE BIAS back in the 90s and am awed by the way this guy produces films on shoestring budgets and in uncanny amounts of time. After LET TRUTH BE THE BIAS i was impressed, but this new film, which i heard on 'Coast-to-Coast A.M.' was produced in three months, just blew me away.

We are all living such busy lives that we don't even notice how deeply the politicos and international money machines are derailing freedoms every single day. Miller reminds us in a powerful fashion that this International cabal is forcing trade agreements upon us that are bad for EVERYBODY BUT multinational corporations. His writing, enhanced by the lovely and talented Judi Dench, is crisp and at times emotional as Miller weaves together the story of how healthcare -- and medical freedom of choice, as he calls it, is being hijacked by a group of bureaucrats serving on the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the UN, the WHO, the FDA, and other corporate charlatans.

All in all, WE BECOME SILENT is a big victory for writer/producer/director Kevin Miller. His work is so rare for a low-budget producer. He delivers a product that looks like it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars...for what was probably 0ne-tenth of the price! If you want a realistic but artistic look at the reality of pharmaceutical-based medicine, and how it is dragging us into bankruptcy, I heartily recommend WE BECOME SILENT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pill popping nightmare, July 8, 2007

WOW! This one should be seen by everyone who is convinced that the pharmaceutical companies have only our needs in their interests. It certainly gives a jolt when thinking that popping a pill is the only way to solve our health problems. Like the auto industry in the area of transportation, the pharmaceutical companies have done their share through lobbyists to thwart the efforts of others to develop and promote alternative methods for health.

5.0 out of 5 stars You HAVE to see this-, March 19, 2009
This review is from: We Become Silent (DVD)
What is going on in the world today? How can that person give this incredibly enlightening documentary such a low rating? I guess they don't care that our rights are being threatened, and that of health freedom- We can't just sit back and let the multinational corporations and regulators inform us-YOU AND ME- of what our medical rights may be...if we don't demand medical freedom of choice we will lose it. ITs that simple. Wake up! People, listen, in this movie you will learn how bad its getting-you will hear it from Congressmen, MD's and the like- can you imagine not being able to buy vitamin c? or getting arrested for selling it?! Well a lady in France was just arrested for doing just that- watch the documentary and let your eyes be opened- you will never be the same!
