4.0 out of 5 stars DRAMA & SUSPENSE, February 11, 2009
This review is from: We Belong Together (Paperback)
In the sophomore effort We Belong Together from Barbara Grovner readers will definitely not be disappointed in this novel it is filled with drama and suspense.

Those familiar with Grovner will be in for a surprise upon completion of this book. She is definitely showing her versatility in writing.

We Belong Together tells the story of Kara and Makai Wilson set in Boston they are a nice couple living life and on the outside looking in one might believe that they are indeed the couple that you read about in romance novels, it might even be possible if Makai didn't have a insatiable appetite for women and simply be faithful to his beautiful wife.

Enter Mavis Rollins a nice old lady who only wants the best for her granddaughter Sandy and currently the one thing she has her eyes set on for Sandy is Makai.

When Kara runs up dead there are a lot of fingers being pointed and everyone is suddenly a suspect.

Readers will be delighted with the storyline as the author does a great job and bringing the story truly to life even down to the dialect of the characters.

The story was great and even with the minor editing issues it still did not take away from the story and I was able to understand ultimately what the author was trying to convey.

We Belong Together was a great read and I cant wait to read what else Barbara Grovner has in store...

I have just completed this book and it was a great read from beginning to end. There were so many angles developed regarding the killer that it kept me guessing. I had no clue who it was until the moment it happened. I LOVED IT! I will definitely be recommending this book to others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Drama and suspense, June 6, 2011

This book had my attention from beginning to end. It's a page turner, believe me! I didn't give it 5 stars because of the explicit sexual content. We are all adults reading this book, so there is no need for some of the descriptive details in this short story. It's very distracting as a matter of fact. Other than that, it was an excellent story. You can visualize each character. Some you will be cheering for, others will make you want to get through this book and give them a beat down yourself! Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted urban love at it's finest!!!, May 15, 2011

Barbara Grovner created a story line filled with many characters that will have you identifying with each one. I loved every aspect of this book from beginning to end.

Envy of everyone Makai and Kara's marriage is a marrige that with all the glitter and glam has its ups and downs. They have everything a loving couple could possibly want. The cars, home, jobs and the surrounding of great friends show to be more of a danger to their marriage than a support system. Friends start to reveal secrets that eventually take a toll on Makai and Kara's marriage as well as their friendship with others. Makai tries to control the lust within him, but begins to test the waters of more than just business opportunites. Kara loves her husband and doesn't care what others say, not even her sister; that is until Kara begins to do her own investigating.

Will their marriage survive? Or will a secret love be the ultimate key that destroys Kara & Makai forever?? Barbara did an excellent job with this urban love thriller and I look forward to much more of her work!!

4.0 out of 5 stars There's a killer on the loose!, April 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
WE BELONG TOGETHER, is an intricately woven romance novel. The novel opens with a look at the dead body of an unidentified woman, prior to rewinding in the next chapter. But the problem is the profession of the murdered victim is listed inn chapter one, and I have a strong certainty about who it is. Hence, I read knowing who was going to be murdered, I just had to wait for it to happen. The story then rewinds and opens with an elaborate wedding, and introduces Makai, the husband (aka Mr. Loverman him self), day dreaming about other women during his own life long union to the gullible, Kara. The story then takes you through their marriage which is laced with Makai's infidelity deficiency, and he has no picks. Trust me. But very calmly all hell breaks loose when his wife finds the unthinkable laying just under the front door as she arrived home one day. And its a calm storm, because she has an investigation to conduct. And that single event gives birth to the mystery of the novel.

While, I was under the impression that WE BELONG TOGETHER was a mystery, all of the background dumps and look into the everyday lives of the characters did not leave room for the mystery element to shine. The inciting incident took place so far in the novel, and I just kept waiting for the murder in the first chapter to actually occur. On the whole, WE BELONG TOGETHER was a good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars (Sebri Bookclub Rating 4.0) Entertaining Read, September 4, 2010
This review is from: We Belong Together (Paperback)
In WE BELONG TOGETHER, Sandy was totally brain washed by her mentally disturbed grandmother. Her grandmother has her convinced that she will marry Makai Wilson. Makai is her best friends husband and a real ladies man who cheats on his wife constantly. She has mental issues of her own and has it in her mind that she will have him to herself one day. There are numerous twists and turns in this whodunit that will definitely keep you turning the pages.

In WE BELONG TOGETHER, Barbara Grovner grabs your attention from the first page with a fast moving plot and scenarios that are quite shocking. There were some editing issues and points of view became shifty and confusing towards the end of the book. Other than these minor issues, I strongly recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Striking Portrait Of Humanity At Its Most Raw..., July 24, 2010
By
This review is from: We Belong Together (Paperback)
Ever since she learned of her late husband's scandalous affair with wealthy defense attorney Harriet Wilson, Mavis Rollins has sworn revenge against the woman who effectively ruined her life. So, once her granddaughter, Sandy, eventually comes of age, Mavis convinces her that she's destined to marry the handsome, charming Makai - who just happens to be Harriet's beloved grandson. Unfortunately for Sandy, though, her best friend Kara beats her to the punch, ultimately marrying Makai and enjoying the life of privilege that her grandmother has always insisted belonged to her. So, when Kara's lifeless body is found in a parking garage, high drama quickly begins to unfold and long-hidden secrets are revealed - which may ultimately prove devastating to Mavis and Sandy's plans...

With an intriguing mix of romance, mystery, and suspense, We Belong Together is a subtly gripping read. In it, author Barbara Grovner takes the reader on an eye-opening journey into the twisted lives of a quite interesting menagerie of eclectic characters. In a world where devious schemes and sinister motives rule the day, one can expect a considerable amount of salacious, unbridled scandal - and, in that respect, We Belong Together certainly doesn't disappoint. Given how rapacious they often prove to be, it almost gets to the point where you find it difficult to root for Grovner's characters to be successful in their endeavors, but she nonetheless succeeds in drawing you into them and their antics so deeply that you can't help caring about their ultimate fates - no matter how twisted they may be.

A striking portrait of humanity at its most raw, We Belong Together is nothing if not entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars You BETTA watch your back!, July 9, 2009
This review is from: We Belong Together (Paperback)
I was first introduced to Grovner when I read her first book, EVEN NUMBERS. I knew from early on in the book that Grovner was definitely a talented author and I wondered what she had up her sleeve next. Never would I have imagined a story like the one that unfolded in WE BELONG TOGETHER.

Without giving away too much of the story, I'll say this, WE BELONG TOGETHER is filled with drama, suspense, and twists and turns that make your jaw drop with the turn of every page. If you don't have this book in your library, I strongly advise that you order it today.

Job well done, Barbara!
