With We Belong Together, Mariah returns to form with a classic groovy ballad, striking a perfect balance between being soulful and funky at the same time.

On this UK CD2, the ballad is taken to new heights with some very good remixes including dance meister Peter Rahoufer's take of the song for the clubs. The Reconstruction Club Mix alter the song for the dancefloor and no one leaves disappointed with its stomping beats for over 9 minutes. A very good Mariah remix in a while after the barrage of remixes done by David Morales. The radio edit is essentially a shorter version for airplay.

The Atlantic Soul mixes bascially adds a sassier dimension to the song, giving it a smoky and laidback feel.

And in a long time, I say Mariah most deserves this #1.

This review is from: We Belong Together Pt. 2 (Audio CD)
A moving vocal performance of a song that has put the ultimate diva of our time back on top of the charts with the biggest hit of her 15 year career, currently in its 13th week at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, "We Belong Together" has forever changed Mariah's career, peoples' opinions of her and has been embraced as the ultimate song of Summer 2005.

It makes it all the more upsetting, then, just how boring and uneventful the official club mixes of the song are. Not to mention the fact that Mariah has a history of excellent remixes for not only the hip-pop/urban radio format but for the clubbers as well.

Although "It's Like That," the already-forgotten Top 20 lead-single from "The Emancipation of Mimi" had remixes that were only just north of lukewarm from club mix guru David Morales, at least those tracks had re-recorded vocals; something Mariah had not done since 2001. The club mixes of "We Belong Together," however, do not, and they suffer extremely greatly as a result.

That is not to say that all club remixes necessitate having re-recording vocals; hardly. The Full Intention Club Mix of her 2002 ballad "Through the Rain" from her underrated "Charmbracelet" album is just one example that proves that original vocals can make ideal groundwork for a fantastic new excursion into a song. With the club mixes of "We Belong Together," on the other hand, Mariah's original vocals sound awkward.

The Reconstruction Radio Mix of the track strikes as simply boring, with the original vocals seemingly simply thrown on top of layers of pretty basic, by-the-numbers dance beats. Although the beats do have potential, they do not work with the original vocals thrust upon them, only altered here and there to speed up the pace of her voice. The full Reconstruction Club Mix only serves to be even more than twice as boring, as it more than twice the length.

The only reason this disc gets more than the standard one star, aside from the fact that you can't complain about the original hit nor her outstanding performance on it, is that the Atlantic Soul Radio Edit and Atlantic Soul Vocal are far better than the Reconstruction Mixes. Although they are far from memorable and not up to Mariah's club mix standard, they do sport frothy production that moves the song along in a saucy frenzy. With her vocals not re-recorded or even significantly altered, these tracks are not particularly special, but they are definitely better than nothing, and are a small saving grace for the disc.

On an endnote to fellow fans and completists, a version of this disc available only in Thailand contains a white rose which pops up when the digipak is opened, much like you'd see in a childrens' pop-up picture book. Definitely a unique item to add to your collection.

2.0 out of 5 stars We Belong Together is the best song ever!, August 11, 2005
This review is from: We Belong Together Pt. 2 (Audio CD)
I had heard that Mariah was releasing a brand new album. Then I began to hear the first single "It's Like That", then "We Belong Together" hit radio play about a couple of weeks later. When I First heard the song it quickly became my favorite! I bought the the full album "The Emancipation of Mimi" when it was released, and found it to be a great album. So naturally I wanted some good remixes from the album.
The album version is great, but I have to say the remixes kill the song. I like remixes with depth and emotion such as; Hani, Full Intention, Pull's, Scumfrog, JS-16 to name a few. Although there are a couple of remixes going around on-line that are really really good of We Belong Together(Uplift N' Emotion Remix and TMC's heartbroken Mix) I'm waiting for them to be released to CD, if they plan to release them to CD? Overall I say save your money and buy the full album, it's much better than the remixes, or if your looking for some good remixes "Who Is She 2 U Remixes by Brandy is a great remix CD!!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: We Belong Together Pt. 2 (Audio CD)
This girl does have a really good upbeat and tone to all of her music. We belong together is such a great song. And I hope everybody thinks that to. she is very very pretty. and seems to have a great Talent. She has a great oppurtunity to be even better then she is right now. All of her videos are awesome, and all the diffent types of mixtures they have for the songs are better than any other. Mariah Carey seems to write her own songs. And to me her music is herself. her number one hit on her other cd was Shake it off. And We Belong Together. Great tones and she has a voice of a rapper. But not so much. Please enjoy this review and you won't be dissapointed with any of her cds.

I love the pianos and snaps in this and the catchy fast paced melody. It was definitely the best song of the year and I can't get enough of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The song that revived her career, July 27, 2005
This review is from: We Belong Together Pt. 2 (Audio CD)
When "It's Like That" was released as the first single from Mariah's new album, I was skeptical. No ballad for her first single, but a generic party song? I was afraid this album would end up being another one of Mariah's ill-fated ventures into hip-hop.

Luckily, Mariah soon followed up with "We Belong Together," her best song in over a decade. The song is relaxed and slow, but the beat has a great groove to it that you can definitely slow dance to. Now in it's 8th week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, "We Belong Together" is a certifiable smash hit, which is all the more impressive when the top tier of the charts is nowadays usually dominated by hip-hop party songs and very few ballads even make the Top 20 anymore.

"We Belong Together" will be remembered as the song that restarted her career and welcomed her back into the arms of the American public again. The first decade of Mariah's career was Phase 1, then she went away for a while, now she's back and Phase 2 has begun. I think this is only this beginning for her...

I was never really into R & B, and I didnt like artists like, Britney, J.Lo, or Mimi....but once my friend gt me into listening to this one, i just jumped into the pool of R& B, and started listening to everyone from Mario, to Ashanti. But however, This song turns out to be better than any other R & B song i've heard. If you Don't want to buy the album, buy this single, believe me, its worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars More then a comeback for Mariah, October 14, 2005
This review is from: We Belong Together Pt. 2 (Audio CD)
This is a simple song with a catchy beat with all the ingredients that make up a typical M Carey hit such as "My All" and "Always Be My Baby". After a couple of rough years and weak recordings, Mariah has once again found her comfort zone at the top of the charts. "We Belong Together" remarkably sustained a #1 position on Billboard for nearly 4 months, seventh to the longest running #1 hit in music history. To Mariah's faithful fans, this comes to no surprise.
Love her or hate her, she has proven herself over and over again for nearly 16 years, as one of pop music's greatest vocalists of all time.
