From Knoxville, Royal Bangs is a laser-fueled, turbo-pop destroyer of bad stuff; a musical group sent down from burger heaven. Previously called "like Radiohead vs. fifteen bottles of Southern Comfort," "nerd fantasia," and "awful" by members of the press. The band recorded We Breed Champions, their debut full-length on Audio Eagle Records, on their own. They sound awesome, like a wall of beats from a computer blasting dueling guitar wizards into hot dog hell, and sheets of red-hot synth slam dunk singing together as a dangerous old/new pop octopus.

The "indie rock meets electronic nintendo and 70s rock" can start to sum up this band and album. "Let It Beep" (the following album to this one) is equally incredible, and if you like good, new, up-beat (very very very upbeat and involved) rock, get this. They quickly became my favorite band, just this year. I can't wait for more from this Knoxville group. Very good guitar, keyboard, fun sounds. They're somewhere between MGMTs first album, and more in-your-face Beck.

Awesome CD,
This review is from: We Breed Champions (Audio CD)
I love this band. I really think they have a really good diversity of songs. Their previous album, Julius Vampire Breath rocked. Greenwich Mean Time was very fun.The Royal Bangs have literally engineered a musical mono-de-mono, if you will, featuring a great combination of keyboard, guitar, holy vocals, and fast drumming business. Every song on the album has good diversity. It's also nice to see band now a days that doesn't have a chorus that repeats over and over.
