About the Author
Civil War Author/Historian Patrick A. Schroeder was born January 1, 1968, at Fort Belvoir, VA. Patrick attended Stuarts Draft High School in Augusta County, VA. In the spring of 1990, he graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Historical Park Administration from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV. He has a M.A. in Civil War History from Virginia Tech. From the summer of 1986- 1993, Patrick worked as a seasonal living history interpreter at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. In 1993, he wrote Thirty Myths About Lees Surrender, which is currently in its eigth printing. The following year, Patrick married Maria Ann Dorsett. From 19941999, he was employed at Red Hill, the Patrick Henry National Memorial. Patrick has written and/or published fourteen Civil War titles including: More Myths About Lees Surrender, The Confederate Cemetery At Appomattox, Civil War Soldier Life: In Camp and Battle, The Fighting Quakers, Tar Heels, A Duryee Zouave, Recollections and Reminiscences of Old Appomattox County and Its People, We Came To Fight, Campaigns of the 146th New York, The Bloody 85th, The Highest Praise of Gallantry & Bucktails: A Photographic History. Patrick & Maria reside in Lynchburg, VA, where they own and operate Schroeder Publications. Patrick is an independent researcher, historian, and author. Patrick is currently the Historian at Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park, Appomattox, VA.
