About the Artist
Caramelize is part of a new wave of artists fusing Spanish and English lyrics with alternative rock, electronic samples and traditional Latin rhythms, melodies and instruments. The band is based in Brooklyn, New York and comprised of California Chicano transplants Sandra Velásquez and El Chapulín and biracial African-American Jewish siblings Hillary Maroon and J Why.
The quartets first album, "Thank You, Uncle Tom," was a Top 20 add on the CMJ radio charts last summer and earned rave notices from the Village Voice, Orange County Weekly, New York Newsday and Californias biggest Spanish-language newspaper, La Opinión. The video for the song "Carolinas" garnered play on MTV Español, mun2 and "LATV Live."
