5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Rock Insanity From Sweden
The Swedish rock band Whale came about purely by accident in 1994, when a trio of friends, including singer Cia Berg, recorded the deliriously insane rocker, "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe," purely for fun. But the song caught on, and so did the wild music video that accompanied it, so Whale went on to make a full-length album, 1995's "We Care." This is one of my all-time...

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm a hobo humpin' slobo babe
Damn, that is good stuff. That hobo humpin slobo babe is awesome. It is the greatest song ever. I cannot believe that this song is not on the top of great mass of people screaming songs. that singer is so sexy with those braces while they toss her all over the world. Unfortunately, the rest of the cd is not very good. But if you see it for very cheap, then get it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Rock Insanity From Sweden, October 14, 2003

The Swedish rock band Whale came about purely by accident in 1994, when a trio of friends, including singer Cia Berg, recorded the deliriously insane rocker, "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe," purely for fun. But the song caught on, and so did the wild music video that accompanied it, so Whale went on to make a full-length album, 1995's "We Care." This is one of my all-time favorite discs---a wild, wacky, exuberantly nutty rock album with bonecrunching guitars, super-slamming drums, uber-fat basslines, and Cia Berg's sultry voice, not to mention the great helpings of humour and sexual innuendo in the lyrics, and off-the-wall production & effects. In short: Whale are an awesome band (or should I say *were* an awesome band; I'll come to that in a moment). "Slobo Babe" put the group on the map, and you haven't really lived until you've heard this crazy little sucker of a track, but every song on this disc is a mindblower. Thrilling, outrageous rockers joining "Slobo Babe" include "That's Where It's At," "Pay For Me," "Eurodog," "I'll Do Ya," "I Miss Me," and "Born To Raise Hell." The band even have a breezy little acoustic number, "Kickin'," to kick things off (no pun intended), and the spacey cocktail lounge production of "I'm Cold." ALL terrific stuff.Sadly, Whale appear to be no more. They released a second album in 1998, "All Disco Dance Must End In Broken Bones," but they have not been heard from since, and their official website no longer responds, which is not a good sign. A terrible shame, because this band was simply phenomenal. Maybe they were TOO good, and they flamed out early. Who knows? But even if we never hear from Whale again, they've definitely earned a very special place in my music collection. "We Care" is quite possibly the most insane rock album ever recorded. It's a modern rock masterpiece, no question about it. Long live the mighty Whale!

4.0 out of 5 stars expirimental without inducing sleep, November 16, 1998

"We Care" is one of the best electronic influenced albums I've heard. If Portishead and the Dickies got together, they would try and fail to make an album like this one. The layering of sounds and the groovy beats are enough to justify owning this album. The catchy songs, off-beat lyrics, and the way it sounds when played LOUD are reasons to put it in heavy rotation on your tape-deck on a long drive. If only Sweden exported more bands like Whale and fewer Volvos. . .

5.0 out of 5 stars A great place to start, October 19, 1998

The first album by swedish trio Whale is very good. Ofcourse there are the smash-hit "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" but also tracks like "I'll Do Ya" and "Young Dumb and Full of Cum" will stick with you for a very long time. A great album with some nice varied tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Euro-Oddity Well Done, July 5, 2003
This review is from: We Care (Audio CD)
This is not your normal album. The tracks are all over the place from the slow, trippy, folksy `Kickn' to the wild head banging `Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe.' One thing that is consistent about this album is its outlandish and suggestive lyrics. With that said, this is a great album, its just different. All the tracks are good and each one may appeal to a different crowd. In summary this is a rare treasure and one of the best in my collection.

Even though Whale has been splitup for a number of years now, they are still a band worth getting into. My exgirlfriend introduced me to this album, and since then, 4 years ago, it has become my car tape, or at least it was for the first year and a half until I wore the damn thing out! Whale We Care is a hands down groovin' album from the very first song Kickin'- and the rest of the album maintains an eclectic feel for variety and a general 'good to listen to' consistency. It is very hard to get bored with this album, and it's best played straight through, a rare combo for albums these days. One of my top five or maybe six albums of the 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the single promises, but great anyway, May 24, 2006
This review is from: We Care (Audio CD)
We have a tape with the "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" video, and I really liked the song. However, I never heard of them again. Now, only a few days ago, we were at the Salvation Army, and my dad saw the CD and we got it for the single. The rest of the album is not anything like their single, but I love that. "Kickin'" is a really great song, as well as "Born to Raise Hell" and "Happy In You." I'd say, get this album if you like slow songs, as well as fast, loud songs. Key tracks: Kickin', Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe, Happy In You, I Miss Me, and Born to Raise Hell.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Care, September 12, 2003

I was so bummed when I lost this tape!!! Bought around '93 cause I digged the funky video...I majorly fell in love with the rest of the album!! I was so happy to have restored it to my collection and am still surprised at the awesome eccentric and eclectic grooves that still delight and nourish. This band formed as a joke...I want more jokes like these! What a fun and sexy mess of art...from the inspiring "I'll Do Ya" to the sizzling "Young Dumb and Full of ...." to the shocking "I'm Cold" (one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.)Throw in "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe"...and all the other tracks and you've found a masterpiece of playful soul. Definitely an underrated treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the finest albums in history, September 28, 2004
This review is from: We Care (Audio CD)
Whale is one of the best bands ever. They've put together one of those albums that as you listen to it you totally rock out to the song that's on and feel like it's your favorite song on the album. Then the next song comes on and that one rules too and you love it just as much and on and on for the whole album. Definately a cornerstone of a good record collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars We Care, March 5, 2010

We Care being Whale's debut album and their 1995 release had the surprise hit "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" and other great tracks such as "Kickin'" and Pay for Me". The sound is a mix of alternative rock and trip hop. Allmusic and Rolling Stone both gave the album high grades in their reviews. No lyrics are included in the booklet but a photo of the band at the time of the release. 4/5.
