DJ Mag

Since The Prodigy confirmed themselves as the best breaks/crossover band, there have been no contenders for their crown. Until now. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Although already one of the leading DJ lights in the new slightly left of centre world of dance music, Hyper has taken on a new life over the last six months. The debut artist album ‘We Control’ has now been completed and is a nod to the days of the Punk Rock revolution as it is to Cutting Edge Electronic Culture. Collaborators on the album include Hyper’s long time production partner Ronnie, Leeroy Thornhill (former Prodigy), US Breakbeat stars The Crystal Method, Dirty Harry (infamous UK rock chick), Wildchild (LA rapper) and Keiron Pepper (The Prodigy). The process of recording ‘We Control’ has led to the formation of Hyper, the live band which has taken the UK by storm. U.S. version includes bonus remixes from Cagedbaby, Metric and Future Funk Squad. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get This Album!, April 21, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
Forget those 2 star hater raters, they obviously don't know what good music sounds like. Hyper knows whats he's doing here and perfectly blends together electronic beats, with good vocals, and jammin' guitar hooks. I'm impressed with the quality of tracks that make up this album, and was not let down. I had high expectations after purchasing Hyper's mix album Wired-which is definetely one of my favs of all time, and was relectunt to get We Control due to the bad reviews on Amazon, but it was just a case of hater-ade, and I just knew that someone with such good track selection, as was displayed on Hyper's Wired mix, would have a hard time making an album worthy of only 2 stars. So do yourself a favor and don't miss out on this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Production on a Great Album, October 24, 2006
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
Great album, take a different slant on electronic music.

The electronic albums that I really love are ones that put production into the tracks to the point where it might not even be dance floor frendly, and Hyper did this well.

They do a great job to give breaks a nice rough dirty edge. If you want something that its'nt pre-packaged drum beats with a melody, grab this album.

This is the type of music I give to people who say dance music is repetitive and boring.

The remixes are a nice addition to the US version, although the Caggedbaby remix is quite possibly the worst remix of anything I've ever heard. Future Funk Squad makes up for what was lost, however.

3.0 out of 5 stars A solid, mixed genre album, June 10, 2006
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
First, and foremost, this is NOT a 'breaks' album. Nor is this a 'progressive house' album. What this is, is a nice collection of varying styles and genres. It's well-polished, and a good listen. I can't be too emphatic, because I have grown accustomed to Hyper's past -- dirty breaks, thumping stuttering baselines, and lots of crunch. However, Hyper's tendency towards melody shines on this album. This is a better album than Junkie XL's new effort, and I liked it better overall than Meat Katie's latest. I think this is well worth a purchase for some "pop breaks", a-la JXL's "Computer Hell".
