Get This Album!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
Forget those 2 star hater raters, they obviously don't know what good music sounds like. Hyper knows whats he's doing here and perfectly blends together electronic beats, with good vocals, and jammin' guitar hooks. I'm impressed with the quality of tracks that make up this album, and was not let down. I had high expectations after purchasing Hyper's mix album Wired-which is definetely one of my favs of all time, and was relectunt to get We Control due to the bad reviews on Amazon, but it was just a case of hater-ade, and I just knew that someone with such good track selection, as was displayed on Hyper's Wired mix, would have a hard time making an album worthy of only 2 stars. So do yourself a favor and don't miss out on this one!

Great Production on a Great Album,
By
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
Great album, take a different slant on electronic music.
The electronic albums that I really love are ones that put production into the tracks to the point where it might not even be dance floor frendly, and Hyper did this well. They do a great job to give breaks a nice rough dirty edge. If you want something that its'nt pre-packaged drum beats with a melody, grab this album. This is the type of music I give to people who say dance music is repetitive and boring. The remixes are a nice addition to the US version, although the Caggedbaby remix is quite possibly the worst remix of anything I've ever heard. Future Funk Squad makes up for what was lost, however.

A solid, mixed genre album,
By
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
First, and foremost, this is NOT a 'breaks' album. Nor is this a 'progressive house' album. What this is, is a nice collection of varying styles and genres. It's well-polished, and a good listen. I can't be too emphatic, because I have grown accustomed to Hyper's past -- dirty breaks, thumping stuttering baselines, and lots of crunch. However, Hyper's tendency towards melody shines on this album. This is a better album than Junkie XL's new effort, and I liked it better overall than Meat Katie's latest. I think this is well worth a purchase for some "pop breaks", a-la JXL's "Computer Hell".

Not bad...,
This review is from: We Control (Audio CD)
I really enjoy a few of the tracks on this album such as "We Control" and "Morning" and the others aren't bad if you like this style of Techno. Each song has something unique and stylish in it, but remain pretty simple and won't suck you in for very long. I wouldn't buy this album unless it was dirt cheap.

if you respect those artists that try to do something new at the risk of upsetting certain people, please, listen to this album.
if you think all artists should keep doing the same thing over and over again without pushing the boundaries in new directions, steer clear. if you are closed-minded, stay away. great album with diversity. that's all i have to say.

Weak Album,

You know if you're looking for a $30 CD that only last's about 50 minutes, be my guest, buy this album, otherwise, stay away. This album is your typical thrown together joke of an album for DJ's who wanna be producers. I don't think there's a track on the entire album that clocks in at over 4:30, that may not be a big deal to many of you, but to me, that's a slap in the face & a complete sellout thing to do. This CD is Hyper & Leroy (from Prodigy) throwing together some forgetable generic beats. The musics okay, but that's it, just okay. As far as the JXL comparison by another reviewr, JXL & Hyper are uncomparable. JXL is actually a quality producer where as Hyper is a wannabe sellout hack. If you wanna pick up a great breaks album get "Santos"'s new album "Home Sweet Home", "Stanton Warriors' "Stanton Sessions 2"(mix & new studio album), or "Meat Katie"'s "Vibrator", all 3'll blow this one away any day of the week, skip this one. You can thank me later.
UPDATE- In the October 2006 issue of "Remix" magazine the Hyper guys did an interview. Here are a couple quotes that any self respecting dance music listener should be outraged by. "I didn't want to make a dance album", "I don't listen to dance music anymore", "WE CONTROL is a backlash against dance music & we wanted to keep tracks around 3 minutes", "A slap in the face of DJing(speaking of the bands live act)", & "Most dance acts don't work". The list goes on and on, what gets me most is this pompous hack has totally forgotten where he's come from. It's not the Pop/Rock & Hip Hop crowds that were buying up his prior mix CDs. No, it was dedicated fans of break beat & all around DANCE MUSIC who supported him. And now that he's gone and released his album, him and his trio of wannabe "Rockstars" think they're gods gift to music. Guess what Mr Hatfield, you ain't nothin', I could not only do what you did, but do what you did better on my home PC. I don't need a bunch of jerk offs bouncin' around on stage to try and disguise the fact that I'm a mediocre musician hiding behind another better known clown. I didn't care for this CD to begin with but for you to come along and disrepect everyone who's supported you thus far.... that's just plane outragous. Don't buy this album, if you already have burn it, or use it to pick up after your dog, that's about all it's worth as far as I'm concerned.

As far as not wanting this to be a dance album; then why'd you fill the rest of the domestic release with dance remix's? It's the dance crowd that would've bought this album, not the Rockers, not the Poppers, & definately not the Hip Hoppers, this album is trash any way you look at it. I didn't care for this CD to begin with but for you to come along and disrepect everyone who's supported you thus far.... that's just plane outragous. Don't buy this album, if you already have set it on fire, throw it away, or use it to pick up after your dog, that's about all it's worth as far as I'm concerned. I don't care what genre of music this is suposed to be, bad, mediocre music is bad, mediocre music no matter what you listen too.

Garbage,

This "Nigon" guy obviously doesn't have a clue, go back to your "Back Seat Boys" & "Brittany Spears" dude. Me personally I like pre-packaged drum beats & as far as people who don't, there's plenty other music out there they can listen to; they don't have to come along and ruin mine. Thanks, but no thanks "Nigon" you've done the wolrd of dance a dis-service. This album blows and "Jbizzle" is absolutely correct, what an insult. To anyone else reading, this album's truely is awful, the only people, and I mean the ONLY people who'll like this are the Pop wannabes who don't have a clue about music outside the top 20 & TRL.
