Biography

First appearances can be quite deceiving, like the ethereal synths that introduce “The Cheval Glass”—opening track on Emery’s We Do What Want. After these initial few moments of calming serenity, listeners are rocketed onto a jarring collision course with some of the most pummeling music the band has ever recorded, quickly turning into a white-knuckle thrill ride ... Editorial Reviews

Emery returns with "We Do What We Want," one of their heaviest and most uncompromisingly intense releases to date. The record marks their fifth full-length release on Tooth & Nail Records, and is undeniable proof that quality and longevity go hand-in-hand. "We Do What We Want" is perfect balance of the artistic evolution that we've come to expect from the band and the explosive energy that initially won our hearts. The album was produced by Matt Carter (Emery) and mixed by Jason Suecof (August Burns Red).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great release from a great band March 31, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Let's get down to business, I like this album, and I think it's worth your money too. Buy it.

I remember the first snippet I heard from 'Scissors' a few months ago. It was only a few seconds long, but those boys had me at 'breakdown'. As you might have heard, it IS a lot heavier than their other albums. I have never heard such quick double bass pedal footwork from their drummer, Dave. You can tell he has worked hard, and it has paid off. Even though the band has lost 'two frontman' approach with the departure of Devin, they haven't lost their signature vocal sound. Toby's voice is clear as a bell when he sings. Josh and Toby both scare the bejeezus out of me when they scream... and boy DO they.

Overall, I love the 'sound' of the record. The liner notes say that their guitarist Matt was a producer for most of the record. Whatever he tweaked with the buttons pushed and knobs twisted, he did a great job. If I ever release a heavy rock album (Lord forbid, it would be horrible), I would want Matt to mix it.

So, what are you still doing reading this review? Buy it!! If you have heard a previous Emery album and liked it, I guarantee you will be satisfied with this one too. Haven't yet heard of Emery? Let this be your first purchase of theirs. You'll like it. It will melt your face.... and you will like that too.

(Yeah..I didn't give this a five star rating. To me, five stars is perfect out of perfect. Yes, this is really good, but it's not the best album I've ever listened to. I haven't found the BEST album EVER yet. If I do find the perfect album, I will be sure to let you all know)

4.0 out of 5 stars Emery Rocks April 12, 2011
By Josh
Format:MP3 Music
The amount of enjoyable music on this album is great for the price, but I have to say that it isn't quite as good as In Shallow Seas We Sail or The Question. Nonetheless, this band deserves its success. I'm glad I bought this album, and it's definitely worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creative March 31, 2011
By Gibson
Format:Audio CD
Emery Combines screaming with beautiful harmonies. This album is heavier than they typically are and at first it sound a bit chaotic. But, this album is very organized and well thought out. Not an amazing album necessarily, but fun, creative and, at many times, pretty.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the CD, but a flimsy case June 5, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is Emery's BEST album. As for the case it came in, it broke the first time I opened it. Great CD, but you might need to get a replacement case for it.

Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This cd is one of their best ones yet I love emery and have been listening to them for a few years now they are quite possibly my favorite band. This cd is great I would put it right up there with The Question. If you love emery or good music then this cd is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hype is real September 2, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
When Emery released their first CD, Tooth & Nail records ran an advertisement that stated, "The hype is real." Well, years later the hype is real again. My favorite Emery albums are The Weak's End and While Broken Hearts Prevail. I think this is on par or better than them. If you have every like Emery, get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING ALBUM!! August 11, 2011

So I liked Emery a lot before. (My Pandora station is titled Emery Radio) This album rocked my socks off. I listened to it for at least a week straight! I saw them in concert the day after I got it which made it even better seeing them live. Do yourself a favor and buy this album! Buy all of them because they're an awesome band and deserve the support.
