It's really the best thing I can say about this album, me being a B.G. fan, I was highly anticipating this release, I was also highly disappointed. I agree alot of the beats on here are straight up annoying. Repeted synths and bass added in, that's basically what you'll hear on this cd. There are some exceptions, as I said, I was really anticipating this cd, mostly because of their hot, even "classic" single, Make Em' Mad. Although some of the songs are pretty good, if you're a fan of Southern rap, Make Em' Mad is by far THE BEST song on here. Lyrically I wasn't expecting much and not much is what I got, Hakim in my opinion is the weakest link and even though the others are ok rappers and standout at times (VL, Snype) (a fan of Hip-Hop will not be impressed) they are nothing special. I can think of a thousand better rappers than these clowns. Still got mad love for B.G. though, this cd is gangsta rap, disrespectful and clueless hustlin' music. So if you're not a fan of gangsta rap in particular, or are not a hustler, than don't buy this.
I recommend this to fans of Southern rap, it's not crunk. If you like that New Orleans sound there is an abundance of it, on the other hand, fans of Hip-Hop and even B.G. might want to turn the page on this one, the Boyz are not on Gizzle's level. I suggest downloading, they're already making illegal money anyway, you can tell.

This cd is more of a 2 or 2.5, but not a 5 like the other reviewers are says. I just gave it a one to move the rating to the right position. This album has three or four good tracks and the rest are uninspired songs you might find on a mixtape. I like BG, but this album is pretty bad. He needs to get some songs with actual concepts besides choppers, drug dealing, and sex. I was hoping this cd would be good after hearing "Make Em Mad", but sadly, it is not. Wait for Young Bucks album

Rappers are always trying to put on their crews but not everybody is a star. Even though their are a few crew albums that are good, Chopper City Boyz We Got This is not one of them. I Understand BG trying to look out for his people but they are nothing to write home about. The only one there might be hope for is Gar. If he works on his style he might have potential...maybe. BG's brother Hakim(aka Hakizzle) is garbage, Sniper is wack and even though I said there might be hope for Gar, his performance on here was weak. Now for the million dollar question: Is VL Mike Plies or is Plies VL Mike(get it?)? His style of rapping and Plies are identical(plus they both rap about the same BS). Dont believe me? Check out his solo joint on here called It's Real. Every member of The Chopper City Boyz has a solo joint which makes it easy to critique them. Remember in th beginning I said that Bg's brother Hakim was garbage? His solo joint, Crucial S*** proves my point perfectly. The awful beat and his groggy vocals will lull you to sleep. There is also a problem of chemistry in this group. Each member sounds like they just toss their verses in a song with no cohisiveness. This is not to say that this album doesnt have any good songs. After a very stupid intro by Ziggy Wiggler, one of the best tracks shows up in the form of Taking Over. Thorough Street N**** and Shake Em Off are good. Even though the beat is kind of goofy, Going On is cool and All Eyes On Me is okay. But those songs are countered by straight garbage tracks like Flatliners, It's Real, Chopper City, Heart Of A Killer, Bounce and Knuckle Up. Chopper City Boyz also fail at making songs for the ladies as evidenced in Never Had(feat Mercedes) and What I Like About Her. What I Like About Her sounds like the type of song Juvenile would make(it has the same formula as Mama Got A**) and while Never Had is a level higher than What I Like About Her, its still forgettable. Their first single Make Em Mad is also forgettable as BG has the only notable verse on the whole track plus the beat(provided by David Banner) sounds vaguely similar to David Baner's Bloody War(listen to it carefully) Bonus tracks: All My N***** has a weak hook as well as a weak beat and even though BG's verse was okay, the rest of the crew weighed that track down. Chopper City Boys is all around garbage. Wack lyrics, wack beat, just wack period. My Block is decent. Its a chick record that actually works. Bottom Line: We Got This is a stain on BG's credibility. His crew doesnt have what it takes to make a good album plus contrary to popular belief, I doubt BG could have saved Knuckle Up, Bounce and Flatliners from being a total waste. Even if you're a BG fan, I strongly reccomend that you renege on this one. Standout Tracks; TAKING OVER, THOROUGH STREET N****, GOING ON, SHAKE EM OFF, ALL EYES ON ME and MY BLOCK.

B.G. is a former member of the Cash Money crew which included Juvenile and Lil' Wayne. B.G. never got too much time to shine in the group, but he recently crossed my mind for some reason. It may be because my Sociology professor was talking about drugs in one of his lectures and it's a known fact that B.G used to be a heroine addict. Also, since I never got the opportunity to hear B.G rap much, I thought I would give him a chance by purchasing one of his albums. I am slightly disappointed because out of the album's sixteen tracks, he only appears on about four. This is the group that he brought to the forefront, Choppa' City Boys. When B.G. does appear, though, his raps are good. As for the Choppa City Boys, their rap skills are good, but nothing more. Don't expect much out of them for they will not wow you.
This album's beats are typical, studio-created beats, but few impressed me. Most of the beats are good, though. There are some that caused me to cringe a bit because they annoyed me. Also, the sounds of gun shots, is that really necessary? Does it help you convey your point that much better? Take the answer from a music listener, no it does not, so quit using them. The boys paid tribute to their hometown, New Orleans in the song "Chopper City", but, unfortunately, it was a sub-par moment on the album. Although the baseline is nice, the gunshot sounds, weak beat, boring chorus and average delivery had me sitting in my chair twiddling my fingers. "Thorough Street Nigga", "All Eyes on Me" and "Flatliners" are all good songs and have a little replay value. This album borders between decent and good. None of the songs are horrible, but none are grand, either. They did little to impress me overall. If you buy it, you might like it, or you might not. Its not essential to your collection, though. Mikeisha's Top 5 1. "Bounce" 2. "Never Had" 3. "Flatliners" 4. "Thorough Street N_____" 5. "Knuckle Up"

I really like this cd a lot. I grew up pretty sheltered, usually having a nice oatmeal breakfast with my family. We didn't really curse and I attended school each day. What I'm learning with some of this new rap is that I have lived a boring life. The chopper city boyz(they spelled boys wrong, but who am I to correct them) are just really neat guys. They rap about girls a lot, which kind of makes them like New Edition. New Edition used to sing about girls on classic hits like "Mr. Telephone Man". I had all of their tapes. They seemed to have more respect for the girls than the Chopper City Boys. These kids seem to be a little disrespectful towards the ladies, but they're cool so it's alright. If I had young kids, I would hope they would be influenced by cds like this one. There is no doubt in my mind that these cats are all centered and probably finishing their college degrees as we speak. I watched the video for Make 'em mad and it was amazing how groundbreaking it was. They seemed to be flaunting their material possessions, which just isn't done in most of today's rap videos. Most videos show rappers spending quality time with their parents at a picnic or something.
Based off of the brilliance of this Cd, I've launched my own rap group called Mc-B and the Big Wheel township kids. We wear jewelry and gotz grillz(I'm learning rapper spelling). Our first video for the song "Tax returns are for suckas" will feature us in cars with spinners and candy paint driving down a street with scantily clad women dancing around all of our friends. I know, it's ground breaking stuff, but we're serious about succes. Here is our track listing: 1. Tax returns are 4 suckas 2. Cops are too mean sometimes 3. Start snitchin 4. McGruff was a cool dog 5. Ribaldry 6. Run like a puma 7. Yeah diz at em 8. Ummm, sure 9. I like girls 10. Hooked on phonics interlude 11. Biz diddle fo schnucks 12. Slap that bum (the outro) We're awesome.

Your money back.
I don't like giving away bad reviews; if you check my record, I rarely hand out anything below two stars, because if it's simply THAT bad, I'd rather not even waste my time reviewing it. I'm making an exception for B.G. and his Chopper City Boyz on this release; something I wish I wouldn't have done in the first place. Now, I'll be honest; I have never followed B.G. He always seemed like the most mediocre member of the entire Cash Money Millionaires clique to me, and artists like Juve, Wayne, and the Big Tymers had far more invigorating personalities. I've always heard about how 'real' B.G. keeps it, which is the reason he has the majority of his fanbase. I've never really been big on an emcee because they kept it 'real'; in my honest opinion, that's a poor reason to follow an artists' work. I did, however, give B.G. a chance because of his affiliation with T.I. and his Grand Hustle label imprint, and his Atlantic debut coming out later this year. This album isn't weak because of B.G. Let that be known right off the bat. B.G.'s hardly even found on this release, so blaming him for this album's flaws would be a mistake. He did however assemble this crew, and he did decide it was in their best interest to have limited exposure on this release; something that severely hurt the album. Honestly, anyone that picked up this release didn't do so to listen to B.G.'s crew; they wanted to listen to B.G. If you're new to B.G., this will do absolutely nothing for you, because there isn't even enough of B Gizzle to leave an impression. I've heard many compliments about the production, but to be completely honest, most of the production on this album is bland, generic, and repetitive. There's a few tracks with a tolerable beat, but there is by no means anything groundbreaking, and truthfully, very few of these beats will even get your head nodding. This album wasn't made for the whip, the club, or the headphones; it feels more like a thrown-together compilation of tracks from these Chopper City Boyz than a group debut album, and that's what it is in the end. It doesn't excell in any area, and it's hardly compenent enough to even see any potential in any of the members. I'm still interested in listening to more B.G., but this album is one that's definitely best to skip over. With weak rhyming from Gizzle's entourage, and weak beats from mostly unknown producers, lazily slapped together in an incohesive album, We Got This ends up being an ironically titled album; because on this release, the Chopper City Boyz don't have much of anything. Avoid it. |
