Shanklin Cop-Out? November 2, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought WE HATE THE USA in 2008 and LOVED it. Sometime between then and now, though, Shanklin has apparently knuckled under to political correctness -- and removed 5 of the original 41 tracks on WE HATE THE USA. And this really doesn't make sense, because, as the creator of BARACK, THE MAGIC NEGRO (one of the removed tracks), Shanklin knows full well that the only racism involved in the parody was the racism inherent in the original newspaper article that is parodied in the song. That anyone would worry about offending oversensitive people who aren't informed enough to understand the parody really surprises me.

So be careful when you purchase a new or used copy of WE HATE THE USA, because you're liable to find yourself without one or more of the tracks that you were seeking but that Paul Shanklin apparently no longer wants to sell you. (Original tracks no longer available on WE HATE THE USA: 1. Paul Shanklin interview on C-Spam; 2. David Ehrenstein's "Barack the Magic Negro"; 3. Party of Love; 4. Love Client #9; and 5. Where Have All the Conservatives Gone?)

I rated this a '4' to average out the '5' that the 2008 41-track version was and the '3' that the 2009 36-track version has become.

.....and couldn't help but order this cd anyway. Already heard most the tracks on this cd, and I fail to see the racism in them. The ones featuring imitations of known racist Al Sharpton were pretty priceless, they not only got his voice but also his mentality and maturity level (or rather lack of) down pat. The first time I ever heard of ridiculing a known racist to be racism......I always thought of ridicule as a means to discredit racists. The only other criticisms about these tracks being mean is that the butts of these parodies always bring that ridicule down on themselves. John Edwards in "I Am Woman" is a scream, "The Justice Brothers" is a humorous look at the readiness of Sharpton and shake-down artist Jackson to exploit any racial element for their own grandizement, "Wright Place, Wrong Pastor" and the skits of "Obama Apology" are humorous reminders that one doesn't need to be white and wear a tipi hood to be a racist, and "Love Client #9" gives the roasting that known Communist Eliot Spitzer was in bad need of. All in all, if you're tired of hearing the Left keep telling you over and over again "U Can't Say That", then this is the cd for you.

In looking at the reviews that just say "Racist! Racist!" I also considered the source. Hearing accusations of racism from the same side of the political spectrum that brought us such examples of love and harmony as Sharpton, Nifong, the New Black Panther Party, and Duke University's own Group of 88 all scream to me "must buy" for this cd.

As always, I am a fan of parody music such as Shanklin and Cledus T. Judd. Shanklin's tracks are my favorite part of Rush's show. If this so-called "controversy" over "We Hate the USA" goes national, it could actually open Shanklin to more of an audience as our American trait of "see it, listen to it, and buy it and see what the hub-bub is about" kicks in the same way that the religious loonies' ranting about satanic messages on records played backwards actually boosted the fan base of Iron Maiden and Led Zepplin. The current situation is that we have two certified nuts as leaders in both houses of Congress, and we're about to add soon a hopelessly naive President coming in tow with a Vice President that is a certified idiot....the Obama years ought to be a boom for the career of Paul Shanklin because I look forward to much comedy from him in the future. I think a skit about Reverend Jerimiah Wright teaching a class called "Creative American History 101" would be excellent after his sermon from last 7 December - "Today is December 7th, the day that this government killed over 80,000 Japanese civilians at Hiroshima in 1941, two days before killing an additional 64,000 Japanese civilians at Nagasaki by dropping nuclear bombs on innocent people."

That would be a riot.

Funniest CD in the last 15 years
My sides still hurt from laughing at this terrific cd. Comedy and the truth at the same time. Rare. Obama is pinned like a beetle in the bio lab. Sharpton is a DEAD-ON parody. Read more
