Editorial Reviews

Some six years after their previous studio album, the Pat Metheny Group regrouped in 1995 to release the album We Live Here. This was to be the first of a set of three albums that the band refer to as the triptych, the others being Quartet (1996) and Imaginary Day (1997). Following the release of the album, the Pat Metheny Group embarked on a world tour during which this concert was filmed in Japan. Many of the tracks from the We Live Here album are included along with others from their various eighties albums. There are short interview segments with the band members inserted between some of the songs which give an insight into the creation of the album and life on the tour.

Line-Up:
Pat Metheny (guitar, guitar synths); Lyle Mays (piano, keyboards); Steve Rodby (acoustic & electric bass); Paul Wertico (drums); David Blamires (vocal, various instruments); Mark Ledford (vocals, various instruments); Armando Marcal (percussion)

Track Listing:
1) Have You Heard 2) And Then I Knew 3) Here To Stay 4) First Circle 5) Scrap Metal 6) Farmer's Trust 7) Episode D Azur 8) Third Wind 9) This Is Not America 10) Antonia 11) To The End Of The World 12) Minuano (six-eight) 13) Stranger In Town

This was the concert that I had hope to see when Pat Metheny did a show at the Count Basie theatre in the late 90's. But, the group was not the same makeup as the same as the japan show, no vocals. I purchased the Cd "We live here" after I heard the cut 'To the end of the world' that was played on cool jazz FM station QCD 101.9 out of New York. I was blown away by the tune, and after twenty (20) years I still get goose bumps after hearing the play by Pat And Lyle. My music library covers a large segment, it includes recording from Miles Davis to The Who, but my favorite recording of all time is 'To the end of the World' by PMG. This DVD is a must have for any Metheny fan, the opening cut 'Have you heard ' as well as 'Here to stay' are great with the outstanding performance of 'First Circle'. Although, above all I enjoyed 'To The End Of the World' on the original CD (I have played it over a thousand times)
the same live performance in Japan just blows the CD version away.

I was fortunate to see this tour in Columbus, Ohio at the Palace from the second row center & believe me this band worked! Glad to have a document of the tour and music that still holds up years after the event. Hope Pat & Lyle will reunite soon.

Have been a fan for many years. Pat has a way of transitioning throughout his songs. Often the band starts on a slower beat but they're tearin' it up by songs end. You can't judge a Pat song by it's "cover". You have to hear it through to the end. Great stuff!!!!!!!!!
