3.0 out of 5 stars The little black princess well worth the read, November 8, 2008

(REAL NAME)
Having seen this part of Australia I found the descriptions throughout "We of the Never-Never" of great interest, especially the scene with the mob of bats. The story of outback life seemed pretty routine (except for the cook!)and isn't something I would recommend unless you were interested in getting an insight it Australian outback life at this time. Though, in a lot of ways not a hell of a lot has changed out there.

The Little Black Princess was a great read, an excellent look into aboriginal cultural and attitudes at the turn of the century and offered some excellent imagery. The Little Black Princess was Mrs Gunn's first book though strangely, not the one she is most famous for. Definately give this book a read.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Good, The Bad, and The Boring, February 7, 2002

This review is from: We of the Never-Never and the Little Black Princess (Paperback)
Two novels in one.

We of the Never-Never does nothing to make you care for the assorted host of characters. Everyone seems to be a charicature, not a true person. Rather boring, would not recommend.

Little Black Princess is much more enjoyable, you care for Bett-Bett and learn very interesting things concerning the culture at that time. Would recommend.
