3.0 out of 5 stars Brule
While some of the selections were really good, there were others way too electronic for my tastes. Not that others may not like the modernization of Native American music - I prefer to hear it more natural.

I have been looking for Native American Indian music for a long time and I finally found it with Brule's "We The People." The entire CD is based on traditional, sacred Native American chants with Brule adding musical accompaniments. The strongest elements on this CD are the chants themselves. The music is composed in such a way that the spoken words are the highlight of the songs. Listening to the songs you hear the beauty of the various Native American languages. Among them are Dineh, Dakota, Lakota and Kiowa nations. You don't understand what they are saying but you can imagine to a degree what they may be singing about. If for no other reason, listen to this CD to hear and examine the beauty of the languages.

With so many of the Native American nations shrinking in population the languages, history, traditions and knowledge are disappearing with them. It could be asserted that this music is desecrating sacred chants but I tend to not feel that way. Brule's music brings a contemporary feel to centuries old chants that propel the listener on some level back to the deserts, plains or forests where they were sung. Brule's music has a New Age tone with a strong Native American flavor. It's not really "poppy" or sanitized like so much music out there today. Listen to "Sacred Praises." If you like that song, you'll love the CD. This CD makes people stop and consider the Native American Indians across this land. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprising CD, November 4, 2002

I happened to be walking through a store in Juneau, Alaska when I heard Brule's music being played on the sound-system. I asked the manager who it was and rushed to the nearest record store to buy it. If you like Enigma, Delerium or even Enya, this CD is a lost gem. Most of the music has a electronica/trance feel to it, with various Indian chants woven throughout the music. The melodies are infectious and wonderful. I admire Brule for trying for experimenting with old traditions and popular trends. And it works. This is a great CD to mellow out to, or even work out to. A must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars My most-played CD, period!, November 5, 2002
This review is from: We the People (Audio CD)
If you enjoy music that is relaxing, meditative, inspirational and, at the same time, exciting, you will love this selection! Enchanting vocals, ethereal flutes, masterful keyboards, exciting guitars, powerful drums, realistic sound effects and beautiful composition make this CD a wonderful example of what happens when you mix together traditional Native American music, modern technology, outstanding musicians and the skills of producers Paul LaRoche (Brule) and Tom Bee. I bought this CD for one song, "Buffalo Moon", but each song became a favorite. If you like rock, pop, instrumental, inspirational, spiritual, or Native American music, you will find something you like on this CD! A compilation like this comes along much too seldom. If you are thinking about purchasing music that has "real substance", try "We The People". This music allows you to "think and reflect" rather than "beat you" with tired opinions and worn-out rhythms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phantastic music, November 23, 2004
This review is from: We the People (Audio CD)
I love this CD! The mix of Native American sounds with techno rock is truly amazing, and you won't get tired of listening to it again and again.
My kids including my 12 year old son love it too. He loves the indian songs with the guitar riffs the best.
Too bad there aren't any lyrics. It would be fun to sing along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Techno rock meets tradition native American chants, May 31, 1999

Don't miss this album!! It is definitely original and special. If you liked Enigma's Return to Innocence you should really like this, but don't assume this is another Enigma want-a-be, it's much more. Very respectful of native Americans which I greatly admire, but with a rock beat that will keep you tapping your foot. I've had the album for nearly two years and still regularly play it and have bought and given additional copies to friends and family. All have loved it. Please don't cheat your self out of discovering this great music! You'll never know what fantastic ear candy you missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD!, June 12, 2001

This is a wonderful, up beat CD. My husband and I both love it! We purchased Sacred Spirit II out of the blue one day in Gatlinburg, we loved the chants and the mix of modern instruments with the Native American sound and immediately started searching for more music like that. We have found only one so far and that is We The People by Brule! They sound so much alike. The beat is up and makes you feel good. I encourage anyone who loves a great beat and a Native American sound to try it!

Awesome! Heard Brule at a local art show years ago and purchased We the People then. I was really impressed how they blended the modern rhythms with the Native Indians chants and melodies. I have given several copies as gifts and each recepient has really liked this CD. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!!, May 4, 2003
This review is from: We the People (Audio CD)
All I can say is WOW!!! It's great. There was only one song on the album (I don't remember the name right now) that I had a little difficulty with - not because it was bad, but only because it was a little too "hard rock" sounding for me. Otherwise, the album was FANTASTIC!!!!! Brule is very talented and I like their unique sound. Buy it. You won't be dissapointed. If you like good contemporary Native American music, Brule is one of the best!

This CD has some great melding of traditional Native chanting with good drumming and contemporary instrumentation. Not too "New Age". Very chic.

My husband and I went to see Brule in Deadwood ,S.D.a couple of years ago . We were so impressed !! They have that special touch. We bought two to their cd's that day , "We The People" and "Lakota Piano". We play them all the time . We love "We The People" most . It has numerous chants on it . As one of your reviews said , we don't know what they are saying but we can pretty much imagine .It is so intense . I get goosebumps listening to them . Anyone who likes native american music should by all means buy this one . In fact , buy all of Brule's cds. Big Brule Fans in Idaho
