This review is from: We the People... (Paperback)
George Vercessi has brought years of experience on the Washington scene and a thorough knowledge of Navy operations, along with his natural talent to spin a fascinating and chilling tale, together to create a riveting, thought-provoking account of assassination and high stakes political maneuvering with an astonishing ending in the White House.

His handling of military traditions, covert operations and desperate actions is superb. An easy book to read, but not easy to put down until you've finished. You will not forget the final chapter any time soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars NAKED AMBITION DRIVES EVIL IN POLITICAL ARENA, February 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: We the People... (Paperback)
This is a marvelous story of an ambitious woman who manuevers her husband to the presidency, through his only talent is possessing a good old boy personality! Once ensconced as President, his "talented" wife starts the ball rolling in a nefarious plot that involves a military helicopter "accident" which sends the Vice-President to a watery grave. Bowing to "popular demand" the wife is persuaded to accept the vice presidency--one step away from the position her husband now occupies--the Presidency itself. However, a Navy pilot friend of the doomed helo pilot, who went down with the VP, begins to investigate, and along with a Navy SEAL a lot of discrepancies begin to unravel! As they track down the political and navy officials who are involved, the two are targeted for other "accidents" to stop the investigation. It's a corking good novel, and moves fast throughout. The story is obviously helped, I'd imagine, by the author being a former navy officer. The story certainly has an authentic ring to it. As I read, I couldn't help "seeing" movie scenes as the author paints vivid images as the story progresses--and the novel would make a great movie! (Move over, Clancy, your days are numbered.) I'm a fast reader and finished this at one sitting. I'd suggest if you are a slow reader, better start early in the evening otherwise you're going to be up late! (Unless you're one of those people who can eat one potato chip.) Anyway, I'm mostly a nonfiction reader, and sniff carefully around for a novel that'll grab me--and a friend told me about this one. (Okay, so I like Tony Hillerman's stuff also.)
