5.0 out of 5 stars The Killing Tree is Back!, May 10, 2004
By

This review is from: We Sing Sin (Audio CD)
The Killing Tree is one of those bands that personify the underground hardcore music scene. They're heavy, explosive, and emotionally powerful. We sing sin the 5 song "ep" could be qualified as a full length release. Clocking in at just under 27 minutes, We Sing Sin, is longer then a lot of full length releases. With an average track time of 5 Minutes and 40 Seconds, The Killing Tree is not your typical Hardcore Emo (Screamo) Band. In a scene filled with bands like Story of the Year, and From Autumn to Ashes, it's a refreshing change to see a more musically complete band emerge. We Sing Sin is a melodic fusion of heartfelt angst and bitterness, while still maintaining a heavy hardcore edge. The question that must be running through the minds of Killing Tree fans who have yet to hear this album must be "is it better then the Romance of Helen Trent". The short answer is quite simply, no. The longer answer however is, well, maybe? It really depends on personal preferences. The Romance of Helen Trent is quite possibly one of the greatest hardcore albums to come out from nowhere. So to produce a worthy follow-up is not very easy. The 5 tracks on this "EP" are for the most part very good. The first two tracks (Mascara, Everything you had is gone) really set the melodic mood of this album, The third track however, I did not like. Jesus Christ Pose is a cover of the classic song by Soundgarden. Musically they nailed it really well, unfortunately the vocals aren't very good, although its not completely horrible, its definitely not good. The 4th and 5th Tracks (We have awakened, Look Alive) are in my opinion the best tracks on the album. They pull it together and finish it off strong. We Have Awakened is definitely the best song musically, it blew my mind the first time I heard it. Look Alive is the best complete song on the album, it encompasses everything together in a 6 minute package of sheer brilliance. Now I must say, The Killing Tree is still a band in the growing process, so don't expect this album to be maturely perfect. Nonetheless it is still a brilliant album worth every penny. On a side note, when I met guitarist Todd Rundgren at the Rise Against concert (He recently left Rise Against on creative differences) he was amazed that I knew about the Killing Tree, this just goes to show that this band is young, and growing. Expect these guys to be very successful. Do me a favour and buy this record. Now!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Killing Tree - We Sing Sin, July 21, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: We Sing Sin (Audio CD)
The Killing Tree are truly a revolutionary and different band on the music scene today. Flashy, yet melodic, hardcore blended with screamo and a touch of sincerity, the combination of four musically talented men very in touch with their feelings. This album is the follow-up to debut EP "The Romance of Helen Trent"(released earlier on Government Music was "Bury Me at Make-Out Creek, a four-song EP; @ governmentmusic.com or redlinedistribution.com for all albums). This band includes members from the underground punk/hardcore band Baxter and the legendary Rise Against. The music on this album blows "The Romance of Helen Trent" and "Bury Me at Make-Out Creek" out of the picture, with only five songs. A half-hour of unique hardcore will bring new light into your CD collection. Best Song: Everything You Had is Gone. Don't miss this album.
