Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This is that book that everyone in or out of the 9/12 Project, Tea Party, or any grassroots movement will want to pick up.  "We Surround Them: Our Journey from Apathy to Action" is a first hand account about normal people that came together to discover that we were not alone and then went on to make a difference.  Through our experiences, you will discover similarities in your own history and relate to the struggles we overcame and realize that making a difference is quite achievable.  I know you will enjoy this book and see it as fresh glimpse of hopefulness that the true spirit of "We the People" is not dead and has become the new American story.

From the Back Cover

The 9/12 Project began all across America, in homes and communities, on March 13, 2009.  Its motivation is simple and profound: to inspire and unite our countrymen back to the place we were on 9/12/2001 - the day after the attack on our nation.  On that day, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder, unconcerned about our different religious beliefs, skin colors, or political parties.  We were united as Americans to protect our nation and the patriots that make it the greatest country in the world.  From its inception, the movement has been guided by a set of nine fundamental principles and twelve core values.

Exploring the human side of the movement, this diary-style work is full of hope, insight, and the surging power of individuals choosing to make a difference.  These vivid firsthand accounts provide an opportunity to do more than just read a group's history, but to live their sacrifices and accomplishments along with them.  Promoting personal responsibility, We Surround Them: Our Journey from Apathy to Action is the inspirational story of The Kentucky 9/12 Project's members, their successes and failures, and the indomitable spirit of Americans unafraid of learning who they truly are as they restore the principles and values on which this country was founded.  This is not a manifesto of partisan ideology, nor is it a theological exposition.  We Surround Them is a fresh injection of hopefulness that the true American spirit is not dead and that "We the People" will always prevail in the end.

In what could be called the quintessential "easy read" 'We Surround Them: Our Journey from Apathy to Action' does just that, it takes you on a personal journey and issues a call to action. Encouraging and enjoyable, this book does much more than document the journey of a committed group of like minded individuals in Kentucky. What this book really does is stir within the reader the need to become more active. Most important though is this message is not confined only to the political playground. This groups journey was not to become political activists but to become better Americans, citizens, neighbors, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers. 'We Surround Them' will encourage you to also become more involved with your family, church, and community. The documentary of this group is intriguing and interesting but the real take away from this book is the reader's own call to a 'Journey from Apathy to Action' in whatever walk of life they engage. Great Read!

This book was a wonderful package of the human element on the Kentucky 9/12 "journey" and a methodical outline of the development of a social movement. J. Eric Wilson and R. Justen Collins do an excellent job of using personal stories along with factual accounts of the development of one of the strongest 9/12 groups in America.
This book left me inspired to search own convictions and be willing to take a stand and form relationships with others to join together and make a difference.
"We Surround Them" would make a great basis for a newly formed group or an existing one needing a bit of encouragement.
I highly recommend this book.

Read the book that tells the story of the genesis of the KY912 Movement in Kentucky, the preeminent 912 group in the nation. Eric Wilson and Justen Collins take the reader through the early days of the movement and provide a guide as to what you can do to start a 912 group in your area. Be not discouraged because as Eric and Justen put it, "WE SURROUND THEM!" FYI - the Vacation Liberty School (VLS) folks come out of the KY912 group which Eric heads up.
