amazing,

This album blows my mind. Glass Floor had its good moments, but did not seem like what these guys were capable of putting out. This album makes up for the few flaws on Glass Floor. This album sounds nothing like the last one, much more upbeat and rockin. The bass lines will make anyone drool with pleasure, and his guitar and vocals are on top.
Highlights: People, The Vehicles, Calm, Young Alumni, Protein And Poison, and Call Me Home Sadly this has not been released in the United States, so you have to get the import. IT's worth the extra money for the bonus tracks, which should be on the international album but are not for some stupid reason unclear to me.

This is by far the best album I've heard in years. It gives all of indie rock a solid kick in the face and says: "Take that you constant kick bass b@stards." The songs are all perfectly crafted with remarkable and memorable lyrics. The guitar lines are perfect. The bass is a bit soft spoken but amazingly performed. The drums are so solid and catchy that you don't know how to react. Is this medium paced dance music? Is this soft spoken rock and roll? Is it amazing? Yes. Top notch, gentelman. Top notch.

simple and clean,

This is a great album for the people who are beginning to feel lost in the sea of strings, keyboards, and fuzzy guitars of todays indie scene. It's a simple and clean effort remniscent of the good old days of midwestern indie rock.
Good job, much better than I expected! Listen to We the Vehicles and Young Alumni.

this album soothes and rocks you at the same time. i heard tidbits of them online, and went to see them live recently, confident that former promise ring members could put on quite the show. and i'll be honest, it was the best show i've been to in a long time. i was impressed. their sound is full, but also detailed and calm. so i bought this album, and was blown away again despite my reservations. it's less energetic than their live performance, but it works very well. it's almost croon-ish. "tearing up the oxygen" is my favorite track on the album. there are a few others that stand out to me as being elite. other than that, just the instrumentation alone makes the album a joy to listen to. i give it five stars because i can't go a day without putting it in (at least for a couple songs) since i purchased it. also SEE THEM LIVE any chance you get!!

With "We, the Vehicles", ex-members of The Promise Ring and Dismemberment Plan have definitely put out one solid album that I love. The guitar work and bass lines are delicious!
Don't expect The Promise Ring or Dismemberment Plan styles to show up, but you will hear their strong roots which equals no weaknesses. All I hear on every song are great melodies, sometimes mellow grooves, or just catchy rockers. I can't argue with this formula they came across because for me, this was the type of album I needed to hear and own. "Tearing Up The Oxygen" has to be the most powerful song on the album, but it's the most mellow, and that says a lot about "We, the Vehicles". I could go on and on about other songs like "People, the Vehicles", "Don't Say You Don't" or "Young Alumni", but an explanation doesn't do anything justice unless you listen to the album yourself. I know this for a fact, this album will definitely make you happy.

One of the best albums of the 2000's,

The first time I listened to this I only liked a few of the songs. But I liked those few so much I kept playing it.
But the third of fourth listen I was totally hooked on the whole thing. I haven't take it out my CD player since. Everyone I've turned on to this is jumping on the Maritime bandwagon. Love the clean but very aggressive guitar playing that accents every song perfectly. Just about every song is top notch but the true standouts for me are People The Vehicles, Young Alumni, Call Me Home, Twins, and No One Will Remember You Tonight. I listen to mostly singer/songwriter stuff but along with The Notwist's Neon Golden and My Morning Jacket's Z this is the best album by a band I've heard in least few years. Get it - you'll love it.

On Par w/ Dimemberment Plan.,

This review is from: We the Vehicles (Audio CD)
This is by far the best of Maritime's efforts. I was a huge fan of The Dismemberment Plan and a fan of early Promise Ring. Like a lot of other folks, I was luke warm about the output from the former members of Dismemberment Plan. This luke warmness applies to Maritime's first album, Glass Floor, a truely average and uninspired album. Aside from Travistan, by ex-Dismemberment Plan's Travis Morrison, released way back in '04, We The Vehicles is finaly delivering the payoff I was hoping for lo those many years ago when The Dismemberment Plan dismembered. This album ranks as one of the years best. Also see them live. The show is passionate and tight.

This cd is much better than I expected it to be. I figured since it was the second one, I would constantly be comparing it to their first album. I thought they wouldn't write as good or as fun of songs as the first album. Man, I was wrong. This cd is Great, even thought provoking. My favorites so far are "Calm" and "People, The Vehicles". Definitely buy this if you were a fan of the Last Promise Ring CD or if you loved Glass Floor. I'm sure it will soon be stuck in my head just like the last one!

It's good, but.....,
This review is from: We the Vehicles (Audio CD)
This album would be fantastic if only they'd gone with J. Robbins production again. Overall the songs are better than the last album but I can't help thinking a lot of them sound kind of flat. (Where's the bass in Parade Of... and in several of the other songs?). It's not too bad and doesn't spoil the album completely, but I can't help thinking how much better it would sound with the really good production it deserves. A missed opportunity, I think. Sorry.
