Editorial Reviews

Product Description

2008 debut album by the Brooklyn, NY band featuring Josh Graham, Neurosis visual director and former member of Red Sparowes and Battle of Mice. The esteemed guitarist/vocalist is joined on this recording by bassist/vocalist Domenic Seita (ex-Tombs, ex-Asea) and drummer Pete Angevine of Satanized. Since then, rhythmic pugilist extraordinaire Vinny Signorelli (Unsane, ex-Swans) signed on as second drummer. As one would guess by the pedigree, A Storm of Light is brutally hard-hitting. However, the group's haunting harmonic drone meshes with guitar, vocals, and subtle keyboard layers, giving listeners more a sense of suffocation by drowning than a simple pummeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected., June 22, 2008
By Tyler (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
After hearing "Mass," my hype for this album was sky-high. I pre-ordered immediately.

I wasn't at all disappointed when I heard the full album. It was exactly what I expected. Extremely dark, sludgy, epic, and grand. This is easily some of Josh Graham's best work. He really shows that he's a tremendous guitar player and confirms with me that this guy's no joke - he knows how to write some really, really dark riffs.

The drums sound like war. The toms blast loudly and the snare pierces through it all while the cymbals crash and add relief. Vinny Signorelli demonstrates how to play minimalistically while still providing immense power.

I highly "And We Wept the Black Ocean Within" to any doom / sludge / post-metal fan. It's an absolutely excellent album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 20, 2008
This is one of the greatest CD's I have listened to in a long time, a powerful, beautiful piece of work. Probably one of the most artistic musical achievements to come out in years. I am in awe. Congrats to Josh Graham
