After hearing "Mass," my hype for this album was sky-high. I pre-ordered immediately.
I wasn't at all disappointed when I heard the full album. It was exactly what I expected. Extremely dark, sludgy, epic, and grand. This is easily some of Josh Graham's best work. He really shows that he's a tremendous guitar player and confirms with me that this guy's no joke - he knows how to write some really, really dark riffs. The drums sound like war. The toms blast loudly and the snare pierces through it all while the cymbals crash and add relief. Vinny Signorelli demonstrates how to play minimalistically while still providing immense power. I highly "And We Wept the Black Ocean Within" to any doom / sludge / post-metal fan. It's an absolutely excellent album. |
