The Weakest Link - Good Buy!,
By edzaf (Chandler, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
Activision's "The Weakest Link" is by far one of the best PC game recreations of a TV game show that I have seen. If you are not brave enough to face Anne Robinson in person (and who would blame you?!), this is a perfect opportunity to have the game show experience in the comfort of your own home. The 3D graphics are amazing (though for (price), the technology is not quite yet there to give you and your fellow contestants anything better than block-head look). The game plays just like the TV show… from the lighting, to the music, to the "camera" swooping in/passing by each contestant. The only difference is the answers are presented in a multiple-choice format. You get the real-life Anne (in filmed segments) zinging the "team" with her trademark barbs between rounds and "cyber"-Anne furiously whipping her computer console around as she fires away. Even the same male TV announcer from the NBC show calmly informs us who was the strongest link, the weakest link, and who banked most for the team. Get too many answers wrong or take too long and your fellow players will vote you off. The "Walk of Shame" is even intact as players try to rationalize their mistakes or blame other players as they walk of the cyber-set. I would actually make this a 4.5 star review -- while the PC game ultimately ran fine for me, it did not on a slightly older computer. So a word of caution to those who may not have purchased a computer within say the last 2 years or so. Additionally, you are given 2 screen resolutions to choose from. Neither gave me a totally smooth graphics (although they are good enough to still enjoy the game). Overall, this is fast paced fun for fans of "Weakest Link" TV game show and its host Anne Robinson. Goodbye (evil wink).

Are you the Weakest Link?,
By Justin Howes (Tucson, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
Weakest Link is the greatest game to hit the U.S. yet! With incredible graphics, realistic sets and characters, and oh-so-lovely Anne, you really feel like you're part of the action! In this version there are SEVEN players, not eight, so you only need to answer SEVEN questions *correctly* to reach your $125,000 target. Let's play...The Weakest Link! You can bend the rules to make Anne give you more or less questions from different categories as well as bend the rules to make Anne be more insulting! This is a great game, but beware--THIS GAME REQUIRES A *GOOD* 3D VIDEO CARD! IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE, YOU MIGHT EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS!!! This review was written September 29th, 2001, the day I went out and found Weakest Link at Wal-Mart! Ah, let thy heart be still...while Anne burns it with her Brutal Truths!

You ARE the Weakest Link... Goodbye!,

This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
Feisty Anne Robinson scolds and punishes us in this brilliant and fun remake of the successful Brit import game show "The Weakest Link". A wonderful recreation of the actual TV game show, we are forced to undergo everything actual contestants endure on the show; time pressured questions, stupid team mates, and a sultry school marm berating us all the way. The voting is fun. I have yet to deduce any set patterns in voting from my fellow team mates. Truly, they surprise me regularly during the game, and I too have fallen under the wrath of being voted out of the game. The questions challenging, and some are easy, and after regular play for about two weeks, I am not getting a blaze of repeated questions yet as it happens in some other games. you can adjust question difficulty, as well as the types of questions asked. One glitch: I was disappointed that I had to choose a character to become, rather than being me, but you find someone like yourself and still go along for fun. I highly recommend this game for any Weakest Link fans and those daring enough to undergo Anne's wicked glare.

Why not include an online multiplayer?,
By
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
This game is very realistic:1) If you think too long to answer, the other players will vote you off. 2) This happened to me during a tie-breaker: 3 players left; and everyone got 1 vote. Strongest Link had to decide who to vote off, and since I voted for them, they changed their voted and voted for me even though I wasn't the weakest, but because I voted for them. I was impressed. 3) If you think Ann is intimidating on TV, wait 'til you buy this game. Everytime you choose the "Single Player" she cracks how you don't have any friends to play with, or if you pick the "Bend the rules" option, she says "I guess you do need to cheat to win." <So Funny> 4) Unlike other trivia games, this one has 100,000 questions!!(So I heard) I played it and no repeats yet and even if you might see a repeat, you have to be a real rain-man to memorize all the answers. However, this game needs online multiplayer! If it will in future editions, this should challenge other game like You DOn't Know Jack as the best trivia game of all times.

Fans of Anne will love this game,
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
THE WEAKEST LINK is an immensely fun gameshow on NBC. Activision takes it and turns it into a well-presented, educational, and fun computer game. If you enjoy trivia games, computer games, and competition this game is for you. Beware, Anne is there in full swing and full of insults and shes not afraid to dish it. So buy this game, sit back and enjoy the insults because YOU are the weakest link. When playing this game, you must be one of the various players. This is not always fun because it doesn't allow you to be yourself when you play, but it's a small price to pay. As you play, it's important to be quick and answer lots of questions. If not, you will be voted off and take the Walk of Shame, not fun. This game allows you to increase your knowledge and compete for the prize money and it is well presented. I suggest you buy this great game today!

Great Representation of the Show,
By
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
If you like the TV Show, you'll really enjoy this game. The set looks just like the one on TV. There's plenty of options (make human player be able to bank at any time, make more questions on certain topics appear more...), but I'll review it based on normal gameplay.Differences from TV: There are 7 players instead of 8. Also, the first question in the money chain to $125,000, starts at $2,500 and not $1,000. The last round when there are 2 players left, the amount of money banked is tripled instead of doubled. This still makes it possible to bank $1,000,000 in the entire game even though you have 7 players. Other than this, it's exactly the same. The questions are multiple choice, but you only get the first letter in each choice, so the correct answer will not appear in full, so you still have to know the answer outright. Example: The first month of the year is? Choices: J,F,M,A. You'd have to pick the J. Rules are identical to the show. The strongest link starts from the previous round starts first. If there is a tie in votes, the strongest link decides who is voted off. If you get to the final 2, the strongest link in the last round chooses to go first or second in the 5 question final round. Then it goes to sudden death if tied after 5 until someone is ahead after the extra round. The computer players votes are very good. They usually notice who's missing questions but aren't always predictable as to who they're voting off. After each round, the same "announcing voice" as in the show comes on and says "______ was the strongest link, _______ was the weakest link.." Very realistic. The box says there's 100,000 questions in the game. If you play it, and don't look at the computer players' questions and answers, and only focus on if they get the questions right or wrong, (can be easily done by not looking at the top of the screen) you'll only see a fraction of all the questions asked in that round. I think this will diminish the chances for repeat questions (a fear that I have in buying/playing games such as this one). This is well worth the purchase, especially if you like the show.

Millionaire, watch out, cuz there's a new game in town! Weakest Link has everything from Anne to 21 real characters to choose from. You can now have the inconvenience of Anne in your own home! Anne has everything from new Brutal Truths to over 100,000 questions! You even get to hear "You ARE the Weakest Link! Goodbye!" and get to take the Walk of Shame. You can play with up to 7 other players, human and/or computer, and you can even play over the net or over a network! If you don't run out and buy the game the opening day, you ARE the Weakest Link! Goodbye!

Greatest TV Game Ever!,
By John (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
This is the best TV-game-show PC game there is!It is generally faithful to the TV show, although there are 7 players rather than 8 (or 6 on syndicated Link), and the multiple-choice format is not used on TV (on TV, a contestant will be asked "What(first letter) is...?). Otherwise, the PC version plays pretty much the same as on TV. I also think there should be a way for one to play as himself, rather than as one of the characters. I would still consider the game to be excellent, though; especially if you love the TV show. The game requires a fairly powerful computer with high quality video, more than most other TV-gameshow type PC games. If your system is not powerful enough, the game will tend to stop in the middle of play. It will work on high-end PC's, but a low or mid-level machine may not be sufficient.

BETTER THAN MILLIONAIRE,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Weakest Link (CD-ROM)
I bought Weakest Link after I was so disappointed with the Who wants to be a millionaire cdrom series when I first heard that The Weakest Link was going to be released in a cdrom I just had to have it. Weakest Link is my favorite show in the world next to Who wants to be a Millionaire and I had found the game a lot of fun to play. My favorite part is the beginning intro video that since I got it I've mouthed the entire intro a thousand times. I actually got to the finals but I was the weakest player and got voted off and so far no problems with it. Even my cousins liked it when I played the multiplayer version with them{By the way is a little confusing} My only suggestion would be a face maker like on the Hasbro Games so you can create your likeness. So don't delay buy this game,Regis {TIP} If you want an easy way to win and not get voted off. Play the junior mode}

Very Realistic,

Wow, agree after having read all the other reviews. Being a fan of the TV show, I had to get this game. Definitely worth it, and plays well. My wife actually made it past 3 or 4 rounds against all computer players. If you want to make it to the final round, pick all humans, come in at the 4th or 5th round, and bank early and often. Especially after you read the question. Keep all your fingers on the right keys. With the upcoming demise of the TV show, and if you are a fan, run out and get this game [$]well spent.Technical glitches; Once I cursored across the contestant selection, I couldn't back track. Anyone else have this problem? My other suggestion is a face-maker like in the Hoyle games so you can be yourself. Otherwise fabulous. |
