Emery defines screamo,
By
This review is from: The Weak's End (Audio CD)
Emery's "The Weak's End" set the stage for this musical powerhouse of the genre. Although a bit more aggresive than their sophomore release (i.e. more screaming, darker chords, etc.), Emery's musical complexity and genious shine through with full flare. The syncopations, the progressions, the beats, the rythms... Emery just shouts undeniable originality. The beautiful mix of chaos and beauty that, vocally and musically, Emery presents is just perfect. In "the Weak's End" we are introduced to the powerful potential that Emery has.
Lyrically, Emery's thought-provoking, humorous and original... almost like their music. The band, however, excels at their interpretation. Literally, this is an album that you have to listen to believe. Emery is one of the most original and creative bands of the genre. It's definately not "more of the same" but, rather, a different and perfect approach at an already monotone genre.

TRUE "EMO",
This review is from: The Weak's End (Audio CD)
Too many bands claim the title "emo" without really knowing what it means. Emery is not one of those bands. Emery DEFINES "emo". Before you buy this (and i strongly recommend you DO buy this) you need to beware that "the weak's end" is NOT your average mainstream music.
Screaming, inventive lyrics, passionate clean vocals, time changes... These are brilliant musicians. Dual vocals really make the cd amazing. But what is even more amazing is the similarity between the two vocalists voices. Forget "Hawthorn Hieghts", these guys can actually sing. Not the average nasally whine of most other punk/emo bands. Yes, the lyrics are somewhat depressing, but this is to be expected. Give them a listen. It's not everybody's taste, but you cannot deny these guys talent. It is too bad that their most recent cd "the question" does not live up to this one.

I am NOT a fan of screaming music. I love emo, but i was shying very far away from screamo. A lot of my friends are into hardcore screaming stuff, but i just kinda grimaced and made fun of it. I was band-browsing, and came across Emery, and fell in love with what i heard. I was so excited to be able to go up to my friends and tell them that i had actually found a screaming band that i liked, only to find that 4 of them had bought the cd over the weekend. You can actually understand the words they're saying, i would never take the screaming out for anything, and its just awesome, beautiful, fun, awesome awesome awesome music! I saw them a few weeks ago and they are just as good live as on the cd. Definitely a must have!!!!!!!!!

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter,
This review is from: The Weak's End (Audio CD)
I accidentally stumbled across this band a few months before the whole "emo revolution" where everyone from grannies to hipsters is singing Helena, Ohio Is For Lovers or Bat Country. God..my ears can't take it anymore. Then for me to find emo, I mean good emo..well, I just couldn't believe it! Emery is a good band from all the American emo bands I've heard before. I absolutely adore the lead singer's unique voice. It's not whiny nor nasally, and it strangely soothes me. The actual music is splendid, it's just right. There isn't a chord they've strummed yet that I do not like. I must say that the band's only downfall is the screaming.
Unfortunately, the screamer/singer(scringer?) sounds as though he stuck his head in a garbage disposal. This completely ruined the experience for me, but I'm learning to accept the awful noise as I really like everything else about them. I suggest checking out 'Fractions', the best song on the album. God, why did they scream..

AS soon as this CD begins, you will be blown away, Emery is one of the best bands out there right now, and this CD proves it. This a CD you will not get sick of. Another great thing about the guys in this band s there faith in God, they love Christ which is what they share at their shows. "Weak's End" is a powerful album with awesome sreaming, singing, amazing guitar rifts, and produced very well.

I think the best way to describe Emery's sound is this: If Anberlin and Showbread had a lovechild, it's name would be Emery.
Check out all the Tooth&Nail bands at [...] They make me happy... As far as this album goes, I'm not really into a lot of screaming...My CD player usually houses a healthy rotation of Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World, Eisley and Snow Patrol...but, because Emery is a Tooth&Nail band (like Mae, Mewithoutyou, Dead Poetic, Watishi Wa, Anberlin, Showbread...)I figured they had to be pretty good. And as usual (ha), I was right. At least I can understand what they're screaming... Some favorite lyrics...a line in "Walls" goes "Your face is so contagious/ it wears announcements/ it leaves me breathless..." "Inside this vacant, made-up, plastic life only your heart survived..." from "By All Accounts (Today was a Disaster)" All of "Ponytail Parades" Just get it. I mean, gee...

Emery is outstanding, coming from tooth and nail were the popular bands of anberlin and underoath are, emery closes in on being almost as goos as them. Walls was there single from this debut and it is quite amazing, definetly the best song on this cd. The pony tail parades is another great song amd the other 8 are good as well. expect big things from these guys there definetly # 4 on the most popular from tandn

I bought the Weak's End thinking it might be decent, having read many raving reviews about them, but the first time I'd sampled some of their stuff I wasn't at all impressed. But then I got on purevolume.com, and downloaded "The Ponytail Parades", "Walls", and "To Whom It May Concern"; and was really impressed with the emotion displayed.
1. Walls 9/10 2. Ponytail Parades 10/10 3. Disguising Mistakes With Goodbyes 8/10 4. By All Accounts (Today was a disaster) 10/10 5. Fractions 8/10 6. The Note by Which a Chord is built 7/10 7. Bloodless 8/10 8. Under Serious Attack 8/10 9. As Your Voice Fades 10/10 10. The Secret 10/10 (This is one of the best songs of all time...)

This is a solid cd!,

I started listening to Emery in may when they played a show and I was really impressed with the presence they kept on the stage as well as their talent which they truly posess. They have a really good balance between emo and screamo and a lot of the songs have awesome lyrics. Like I love the way they are so real with their songs like the song Fractions is awesome because it's all about how the guy messes up with his girlfriend, but instead of saying "oh it's okay", he admits his faults. Also, the song As Your Voice Fades is incredible with all the emotion put into it. I'd say the only drawback of this CD is the fact that some of the songs in the middle of CD lack some originality. They are still good, but not nearly as solid as the first few tracks and the ending tracks.
If you are at all into emo or screamo or whatever you call it I would deff recommend this CD. Listen to Walls and The Ponytail Parades first because they are probably the best tracks on the CD. |
