5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!
This is a really neat product; it was obviously invented by a mom. I would say this is perfect for babies around 7 months or older. It doesn't puree the food so your baby should be able to handle more texture and chunks in his/her food. So far I have tried, spaghetti, a banana, steamed broccoli, and a chicken-pasta dish. It works like a garlic press. If it can be...

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but I am very dissapointed
This item was a complete waste of money. Stick with a grinder. I liked the portability of the Wean Machine and the idea of it but it didn't work. Whatever well cooked (or over cooked) food you put in this item, it does not come out of the grates. The food just gets stuck in the bottom getting mashed flat below the grates. I am very sad that I bought this. I was planning...

I was planning on buying this and then trying it out for my 7 month old before purchasing it for some of my pregnant relatives. I thought it would work as well as a garlic press, but I didn't even get enough food through the grates to have a spoon full for my child. Don't waste your time or money on this. Look for something else.

It doesn't puree the food so your baby should be able to handle more texture and chunks in his/her food. So far I have tried, spaghetti, a banana, steamed broccoli, and a chicken-pasta dish. It works like a garlic press. If it can be mashed with a fork, it will work well in this devise. Things that don't mash such as cantaloupe, oranges, or grapes don't work so well, they just make juice . It is extremely portable and will be perfect for use at any restaurant. The spoon clips on and it has a lid, so you are ready to go. Clean up was also very easy!! This is much easier than a food processor.

This device only handles really soft food, for which a fork works perfectly well. In fact, I prefer the results I get with a fork on bananas, avocados, pasta, cooked carrots, squash and potatoes. For slightly harder food (like fruit, stir-fried veggies, and rice) this device just doesn't work. Spend less money and buy a little portable hand operated food mill.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Wean Machine Portable Baby Food Maker, September 21, 2010

This item is a great idea, but in all reality, completely unneccessary. Save your money! My baby went from eating mushy baby food, refusing to eat chunks, to eating solid foods overnight. I am a big fan of gadgets and wanted so bad to use this one but found that for things that needed mashing/strainig like avocados, my Pampered Chef garlic press was perfect and The Wean Machine was just a lot of extra work to get the same results as using basic kitchen utensils. Hopefully, there are some people out there that found The Wean Machine useful, but for me it was money wasted.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's coming in handy, January 5, 2012

We like this because our baby wants to eat what we're eating. The biggest problem is that the food doesn't all go through the holes and a lot gets stuck in the bottom. It still gets mushed, so we just scrape that part out with a spoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, convenient & great value, October 21, 2011

This is very handy to take out with you or to use at home. Even though you could use it until whatever age they suggest, we only used it up until our son could eat chunkier solids. It's very easy to clean. The spoon is an added bonus.

I was very excited when I purchased this product. My baby just started on solids and I was so tired of mashing bananas, cutting up avocados for my little guy. This product does what it advertises. It is quite fun to use, too. However, cleaning takes longer time than preparing the food. You have to take the parts apart to clean it after each use, otherwise the fibers of the food will get stuck around the rim of attachments. I got tired of scrubbing them and soon this product was retired to the back of the drawer.

This is a handy tool to carry around in your diaper bag for those times when you don't have baby food for your little one. I like that it is very easy to clean. I just throw it in the dish washer and it cleans up nicely. Also I really like that there is a spoon that snaps on the top. This is a very convenient feature. It also has a cover so that once you use it you can just pop the cover on and put back in your diaper bag without worrying about making a mess in your bag. The extra grater piece is also a plus because you can mash up more than one food without actually mixing the foods together. Overall, I really like the wean machine. Some reviews stated that you could just use a fork and this is true but with some foods like pasta or potatoes this makes it a lot easier. I would definitely recommend this product.

I purchased this at a store (for more than what it's being sold for here at Amazon! Should've checked here first!!!) and it's such a simple, yet ingenious gadget! It's seriously like an oversized garlic press, which is GREAT for cutting up food for babies who are just beginning to eat solids! It comes with a spoon that fits into its own little space, an extra hole-thingy that's slightly larger for when the baby can eat larger chunks, and a convenient cover that once you use, protects residual food from getting out and making a mess. This gadget is perfect for taking to restaurants and then throwing it back in your diaper bag when you're done (then you can wash it when you get home.) It's lightweight and well designed. I've used it to cut up tofu, fish, noodles, and soft fruit so far. It's so much easier and faster than trying to chop up the food with a spoon or cut it up with a scissor. I need to be quick because once my boy sees the food, he wants it ASAP. hahaha!

The only thing I don't really like about this is that because the "hole-thingy" that basically acts as the blade to cut up the food isn't flush against the bottom when you pull it down, there's always some food that doesn't get cut up. I guess that's inevitable. I looked at my garlic press and it's designed the same way as well, so I'm assuming there must be a reason for it. ALSO, the fact that the "hole-thingy" is made of plastic makes me wonder if it's going to able to cut up harder foods. I haven't tried harder foods yet, but I'm hoping that I won't be disappointed.

I was really excited when I bought this gadget and I'm not disappointed. It's great to keep in my diaper bag when I go out to restaurants and for quick cutting. I definitely don't think it's intended to be used to prepare a bunch of food to be stored. I use my Beaba Babycook for that! But I love that I can go out to eat and give my baby some of the (appropriate) foods that I'm eating.
