About the Author

Shawn Hughes is a Nationally Recognized Expert in multiple fields, including Hazardous Device (bomb) Disposal, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Police Operations.

Shawn attended two colleges, Roane State Community College and Johnson Bible College, before leaving to enter the job field.

In addition to traditional schooling, Shawn has taken well over two thousand hours training in several specialized subjects. He is certified as a Police Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Crime Scene Technician, and holds several licenses as well, including a state explosives license, and a commercial and amateur radio license. He has taken over thirty classes sponsored by the Local, State and Federal Emergency Management Agency, most of this prior to 9/11.

Shawn's career in Public Safety started in his teens, serving with the Civil Air Patrol in training, leadership, and response capabilities at the ripe old age of 14. He then became a Police Officer at age 18, and has been affiliated with Law Enforcement in various capacities for 12 years. Serving primarily on Patrol, he has also been a Bomb Technician, Technical Surveillance Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Bicycle Officer, and has been assigned to several special teams, including Narcotics, SWAT, and the Special Task Force for several East Tennessee Agencies. Shawn was awarded a medal for his participation in a particularly nasty homicide in Monroe County, TN. that resulted in the defendant being placed on Death Row.

In addition to his Public Safety role , Shawn has been vocal in his areas of expertise. He has written as a subject matter expert for six national magazines, including S.W.A.T., Police, and the members-only journals for the National Tactical Officers Association, and the International Association of Bomb Technicians. He has several articles already due out in 2004.

Shawn currently has a number of irons in the fire, including consulting for a few multinational companies, teaching on several topics as a Lead Instructor for Tactical Response, Inc., writing a column for the number one Law Enforcement e-magazine PoliceOne.com (45k subscribers), giving advice as the sole Bomb Disposal / WMD guy at Allexperts.com, and various special projects. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

If you are looking for a easy to understand easy to read book on the subject of WMD? Then this is your book. Finally some one tells the truth on surplus military NBC equipment. This book covered all the topics and is the perfect thing to bring the public and first responders up to speed on the subject. If you are interested in learning more on the subject I recomend this book.

The Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness Guide, aka "The Green Book", is an excellent text for any prepared citizen to have on hand. It offers a wealth of critically useful information in an easy-to-understand format. After reading "The Green Book" I have a greater understanding of how I can personally be more prepared in the event of future terrorist attacks. Just knowing what equipment is appropriate for different situations has made me more confident about planning for my family's safety without getting sucked into the frenzy of buying a lot of expensive, but not necessarily effective, equipment. Having a better understanding of how various WMDs work and are used has actually put my mind a little more at ease. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wishes to know more about WMDs or wants to be a better prepared citizen.

I've had the pleasure of reading Shawn's book, and must say, I've learned quite a bit about WMD. This book is highly informative, and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in learning more about the hot topic of today. How to deal with them, and how to protect yourself and your family. Shawn is an expert in the field, but the book is written so everyone can understand it. Very well worth the money. GROG
