This review is from: Weapons of the Vietnam War (Hardcover)
Sometimes the side with the best weapons do not win the war. This conclusion stares at you on every page, yet it is absent in the text. Half the book are photos that should have been better chosen or better placed next to the text. There is no technical analysis of the weapons. For example there are no specs on the M16 and AK 47 rifle and their real world effectiveness in the Vietnam terrain. The authors speak, but not the men & women behind those weapons.Despite my criticism, this book fills a need for those who know little of the weapons that were used. Bear in mind other books will have to be consulted for technical specifications. The topics are well chosen: (1) Guerilla warfare (2) The infantryman's war (3) Air cavalry (4) Artillery & armor support (5) The North Vietnamese Army (6) Air support & interdiction (7) The river war (8) The air war against the North (9) Naval operations |
