Great footage, awful quality, March 21, 2003
This review is from: Weapons of War:the Yf-22a Fighter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Great YF-22 and YF-23 footage, but tape quality is awful (possibly, it went right from the stock where it was lost for 12 years).
Video was made in the times when USAF decided to choose YF-22 team over YF-23. Seems that decision was made just prior film makers ended the process, so, thanks God, movie has rare and deep enough footage of YF-23 testing. Sure most of the inflight footage goes from both team ad videos (or videos intended for demonstration to Pentagon decision-makers), with balances 50/50 between YF-22 and YF-23, interestingly, that all the charts shown, explain why F-23 will be best FSD decision. Video has YF-23 (and then, LM F-22) test pilot Paul Metz interview in front of YF-23. Needless to say, that 'then' YF-23 was the best airplane for him.
I liked the movie because it has many footage that I haven't seen before, and much less sleepy 'historical overview' about aircrafts that has nothing in common to the stealth subject, that other documentaries like this have.
Video has a rare(?) footage of YF-22 spin recovery chute testing, as well as high AoA tests.
If you are YF-23 nut, it a must have movie, it possibly has all the YF-23 footage available to public after Northrop team lost ther competition and put all their ATF contender information in their dusty archives under grumpy eyes of their PR dept.
Hope you will be lucky with the quality of your copy.
