I decided to purchase 2 more this year...same item, same manufacturer. The new ones are much inferior to my originals. While the aluminum frame appears to be the same, both the wooded arm rests and the chair fabric are narrower and cheaper...really cheap.
The new chairs were about $5 cheaper than my originals...and a lot less than $5 in quality.
Wood arms are important. They are FAR more comfortable than plastic/resin arms. If there is something ON the wood you don't like, remove it. The adjustable headrest is nice, as are the snaps that hold the chair together in 'backpack' mode. The strap the holds the two chair 'halves' firmly together while in 'backpack' mode ensures the chair STAYS together. That's important when you have the pack full of 'stuff' and you're hauling it somewhere.
I take my chair on motorcycle trips. It's been on many tens-of-thousands of miles of road..not all of them smooth highways by any stretch of the imagination. It's held together well. Nothing beats a comfortable recline in this chair after a long ride in 100º+ heat in leathers.
In regard to some of the naysaids:
'It's too narrow!' Uh...it's stated to be 22" wide! If that doesn't fit YOUR backside, bring a couch.
'The cupholder is useless.' It fits a 'regular' sized can (12-16oz.) AND that same can IN a stainless steel vacuum insulated holder. No. It won't fit a 22oz. Big Mouth Mickey. It won't fit a quart-sized mason jar or a cantaloupe, either. IF it was made to fit the latter, the complaint would be, 'My 12oz. can falls over!' I'm sorry for your pain.
'It's not comfortable!' To each his own. The 'preferred' chair to that comment is a tightly strung (looped on three sides), plastic armed chair with a 'pack' on the back that might hold a sixxer. I've sat in those chairs. They're AWFUL.
It's impossible to make any 'thing' that will please everyone. If others prefer other choices, that is fine. The WearEver chair is superior in a number of ways to any other similar chair I've seen or sat in. It may not Wear for Ever, but it will last a long time. (300lb. full-figure or WWWF man-loads excepted)
I purchased this chair for a vacation to Florida and I was certainly happy with it and how it worked -- I bought the chair ahead of time because usually when you go to vacation/tourist destinations, the cost is more expensive -- BUT not this time! I was so amazed when I went to Walmart at the vacation site and found the exact same chair for $25 vs the $43 I bought it for. I usually have a hard time beating the prices from Amazon.com or there might be a few $ difference, but this was much more than I expected. Not a happy purchaser of this chair all because of the $18 difference!
It came a couple days ago and….. it is definitely not a WearEver.
As advertised it is a RIO Brand chair.
It resembles a WearEver.
But it is NOT a “High Back Steel Backpack Beach Chair by WearEver. ”
The fabric quality and workmanship are lower than my WearEver. And the arms, in addition to having some funky protective tape that was a pain to peel off, are unfinished. My WearEver’s arms still look great in their protective shellac.
I will keep the Rio; it will serve it’s purpose. But I’m not sure it will hold up as well as the WearEver.
1) The chair is sold thru Scrappy Sales which does NOT put its return policy on Amazon for a good reason.
2) The chair does not list its dimensions because it is really a chair for children or very small adults.
3) It is very uncomfortable - designed for the Chinese market where it is made.
4) The price on Amazon is at least $20 higher than you can find at Walmart or other places online.
5) For a very small chair it is extremely heavy. Go figure.
I wasted $48 dollars (price plus shipping) I hope you do not.
I'm very disappointed with the lack of quality and style changes in the newer version - I returned mine.
