Feel Cheated, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Wearever 92280 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Locking Lid (Kitchen)
I feel cheated after purchasing this pressure cooker 2 days ago,Aug.25, 09, both by Amazon & by Mirro/Wearever. My experiences should warn others away from both vendors to others MORE HONEST.
First Wearever/Mirro: 1) Most pressure cookers today have a standard of 15 [fifteen] pounds per square inch of cooking pressure. This is what one should expect & get. Not these, that have only 10[ten]psi, meaning much longer cooking times. Much of the pressure cooking advantage is reduced, cooking times increased, more nutrients lost [there is a time x temperature interaction for many compounds].
2) It is not clearly stated that this cooker is of the type with a separate weighted pressure head instead of the more modern in-built type. There is no way to determine this from the product description by Amazon which should be clearer about these 2 important features: the working pressure, if non-standard, and the type of head.
Amazon: 2 days ago, the price was $37.98, today it is $35. Apparently, this item is not selling well, so the price dropped 3/38 in 2-3 days; it will fall further, probably because customer dissatisfaction is VERY VERY HIGH with both sets of vendors. Warning: I was foolish: will find only only a few customer reviews, 2-3, for this product. Compare that with the better brands, for which you will see 300+ reviews. That itself speaks volumes: people are buying those brands and NOT Wearever. Only fools like me buy brands on clearance!! You either buy what you like or
like what you buy, its that simple.
This is my first ever cookware purchase from Amazon and my last.

Great product, but not the brand I was supposed to get, June 18, 2009
This review is from: Wearever 92280 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Locking Lid (Kitchen)
Before I bought this pressure cooker, I researched it with family and friends that had used the older pressure cookers - the ones that were dangerous. Most people advised that I stay away from using one and that you really had to be careful, but I was determined to be able to provide a good home-cooked meal on a week night without leaving the slow cooker on all day.
My first use was making one of the chicken recipes in the recipe book that comes with it. After putting it on the stove and turning it up, I peeked around the corner until it whistled. The concept is to that once it whistles the first time, you turn the heat down just enough that it will whistle every few minutes. Unfortunately you have to figure out what that point is, but once you get the hang of it, you will feel more comfortable cooking. I could make almost every meal with this thing now.
This product allows me to make ultra tender roasts, mouth watering corned beef, pinto beans, basically anything that you would normally cook in a few hours, you can make in less than an hour.
The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I got it with an Amazon daily deal, and I was supposed to get the 8qt Fagor and ended up getting the Wearever. I don't really think the brand mattered, but I felt like they should have been honest about the brand in the first place.

Can't locate replacement part, September 1, 2009
This review is from: Wearever 92280 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Locking Lid (Kitchen)
My order arrived quickly, Aug, 28. I removed the contents of the box, looking forward to using. My husband disposed of the box; because, I have a tendency to keep everything. I must have left the pressure regulator in the box, although the box seemed empty when I sat it aside. The rubber gasket was attached to the pot. I did not notice that the pressure regulator was missing, making it "just a pot." The manual states that "Wearever does not sell or warranty replacement parts. Replacement parts can be purchased from your local hardware or retail store that carries WearEver replacement parts." Someone, please tell me where this would be. I've gone to Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware; then, for hours looked on line. I did find some WearEver replacement parts, just not the one that I need. If anyone could help me in locating a "Wearever Single Pressure Control 10 PSI, item no. 92210, 8 qt. model", I would be so grateful. I really want to use this pot, despite the negative review that has been posted since my purchase. Thank you.
P.S. If I end up having to purchase the whole pressure cooker to get one that works, it will be a Presto. The Presto I had used from 1973 until I replaced it with this one was easy to get replacement parts for. You can actually get them from Presto. Imagine that! LOL.
