Feel Cheated,
By Birchbaum (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wearever 92280 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Locking Lid (Kitchen)
I feel cheated after purchasing this pressure cooker 2 days ago,Aug.25, 09, both by Amazon & by Mirro/Wearever. My experiences should warn others away from both vendors to others MORE HONEST.First Wearever/Mirro: 1) Most pressure cookers today have a standard of 15 [fifteen] pounds per square inch of cooking pressure. This is what one should expect & get. Not these, that have only 10[ten]psi, meaning much longer cooking times. Much of the pressure cooking advantage is reduced, cooking times increased, more nutrients lost [there is a time x temperature interaction for many compounds]. 2) It is not clearly stated that this cooker is of the type with a separate weighted pressure head instead of the more modern in-built type. There is no way to determine this from the product description by Amazon which should be clearer about these 2 important features: the working pressure, if non-standard, and the type of head. Amazon: 2 days ago, the price was $37.98, today it is $35. Apparently, this item is not selling well, so the price dropped 3/38 in 2-3 days; it will fall further, probably because customer dissatisfaction is VERY VERY HIGH with both sets of vendors. Warning: I was foolish: will find only only a few customer reviews, 2-3, for this product. Compare that with the better brands, for which you will see 300+ reviews. That itself speaks volumes: people are buying those brands and NOT Wearever. Only fools like me buy brands on clearance!! You either buy what you like or like what you buy, its that simple. This is my first ever cookware purchase from Amazon and my last.

Great product, but not the brand I was supposed to get,
By Stolicat (Meno. Falls, WI) - See all my reviews

Before I bought this pressure cooker, I researched it with family and friends that had used the older pressure cookers - the ones that were dangerous. Most people advised that I stay away from using one and that you really had to be careful, but I was determined to be able to provide a good home-cooked meal on a week night without leaving the slow cooker on all day.My first use was making one of the chicken recipes in the recipe book that comes with it. After putting it on the stove and turning it up, I peeked around the corner until it whistled. The concept is to that once it whistles the first time, you turn the heat down just enough that it will whistle every few minutes. Unfortunately you have to figure out what that point is, but once you get the hang of it, you will feel more comfortable cooking. I could make almost every meal with this thing now. This product allows me to make ultra tender roasts, mouth watering corned beef, pinto beans, basically anything that you would normally cook in a few hours, you can make in less than an hour. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I got it with an Amazon daily deal, and I was supposed to get the 8qt Fagor and ended up getting the Wearever. I don't really think the brand mattered, but I felt like they should have been honest about the brand in the first place.

Can't locate replacement part,
By
This review is from: Wearever 92280 8-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker with Locking Lid (Kitchen)
My order arrived quickly, Aug, 28. I removed the contents of the box, looking forward to using. My husband disposed of the box; because, I have a tendency to keep everything. I must have left the pressure regulator in the box, although the box seemed empty when I sat it aside. The rubber gasket was attached to the pot. I did not notice that the pressure regulator was missing, making it "just a pot." The manual states that "Wearever does not sell or warranty replacement parts. Replacement parts can be purchased from your local hardware or retail store that carries WearEver replacement parts." Someone, please tell me where this would be. I've gone to Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware; then, for hours looked on line. I did find some WearEver replacement parts, just not the one that I need. If anyone could help me in locating a "Wearever Single Pressure Control 10 PSI, item no. 92210, 8 qt. model", I would be so grateful. I really want to use this pot, despite the negative review that has been posted since my purchase. Thank you.P.S. If I end up having to purchase the whole pressure cooker to get one that works, it will be a Presto. The Presto I had used from 1973 until I replaced it with this one was easy to get replacement parts for. You can actually get them from Presto. Imagine that! LOL.

Failed expectations and unfair pricing!,

I do absolutely agree to Birchbaum review.I also think that Amazon has intentionally withold the important information/features of this pressure cooker in order to lure unsuspecting consumers into buying this product. I bought this as a gift for my wife and based my choice upon the photograph posted as it looked nice, and I thought the pressure control was built in, similar to the pressure cooker we bought in Germany for my mother in law. I know my wife is just being nice when she said she like it, as apart from these undisclosed features mentioned in Birchbaum's review, my wife discovered that the rubber gasket is not that fit, and that plenty of steam escapes from the lid handle where the overpressure valve is located eventhough the pressure vent is not blocked. To make it worse, strong steam escaped out of the overpressure safety window as well, and it says on the manual that if this ever happens, the rubber gasket must not be reused again and should be replaced! All of these, just on its first use and the problems are not due to 'operator error' as the user manual was read prior to use, and my wife has been a pressure cooker pro since age 14! And speaking of replacing, according to the user manual, you cannot order or buy spare parts from the manufacturer but have to search for these from your local hardware stores(namely???) if they sell their spare parts. Which means if the stores don't, then they could not help you. This according to one review is quite true as she needed a part that was lost, but could not find any store to buy the replacement part. Lastly, I've bought this for $35, but less than a week after my order, the price has gone down to just $26.30 which is quite not fair!!! I felt cheated and bad wasting my money, but to save myself from further aggravation, I would not bother returning this item since I won't have the customer service I expect, and will not get all my money back anyway. At least now I learn not to order things online based on appearance or photo, or to buy things which has no satisfaction guaranteed and could not get a full refund. This was my first time to buy a kitchen item to surprise my wife (2nd time to buy a product at Amazon), and I think would be the last. At least my wife fully appreciated my gesture, even if my gift failed.

Sonya Collins,Since the price is so low ($24 as of today Oct 5, 09), may be you could buy another pot and use it for spare parts. That's what I did. I figured that in 2 years or so I would need to replace the gasket, which cost approx $10 - $15. If the handle breaks, it costs another $10 - $15 to replace. So buying another pot for $24 and use it for spare parts makes sense to me. Plus I can use the extra pot for regular cooking. The size of the pot is standard and I already have several lids in my house that fit the pot. It is high quality stainless steel. An 8 Qt regular stainless steel stock pot costs $30 - $80. By the way, I just bought this pressure cooker for 2 months and I love it. Even though it has only 1 pressure (10 psi), it took the same amount of time to cook the food as my 15 psi Presto. And I can release the pressure without having to pour water over the pot (to check the food during cooking).

My daughter wanted a new pressure cooker. It does not workwell she said. It was a gift and she said she cannot get it to come up to pressure so she used it once and then has not used it since. I bought two at time and thought Wow great price. Since I bought on line with Amazon I do not know if I can return the product. I hate to give bad review. I liked it because it was stainless steel...

It's really nice and it's stainless steel. Great price for the product but, annoying after 10psi it releases pressure, so every 10-15 seconds you'll hear it releasing pressure.

I bought one of these for myself and two for gifts for my family. We are all thrilled with the three Pressure cookers. The stainless has a heavy bottom that helps keep food from sticking. We use the pot as a wonderful stock pot too. What a bargain they were.

This cooker arrived just in time for deer season. My son likes to process his own deer, and loved using this one to cook down all his bar-b-que and chile. Now we have a freezer full of wonderfully tender items to last us several months.
