5.0 out of 5 stars Alt. Country meets Bill Monroe, February 2, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Weary Boys (Audio CD)
The Weary Boys are half transplants from California and half local Central Texas Boys playing 'No Depression' (Uncle Tupelo and alt. country) type of traditional country music influenced by Hank Williams Sr., Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Louvin Brothers, and Johnny Cash (aka country music the way it sounded about 1950). The cd mixes a few slow traditional 'gun in your mouth' country tunes with a whole bunch quick up-beat dancing/fighting tunes a la 'acuff-rose' by the fore mentioned Uncle Tupelo. With stand-up bass, single snare drum (no fancy 15 piece drum sets for these boys), fiddle, electric and acoustic guitars, the Weary Boys pack 'em in at local Austin Texas dives like the infamous Continental Club and the Broken Spoke. A cd guaranteed to please with beautifully covered versions of 'ramblin man' and 'freight train blues' among others. I raise a cold Lone Star to the boys for an excellent release.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, April 8, 2003

Bluegrass, country, roots...this CD is all of that and more. Try to sit still while you listen...impossible! The two singers harmonize really well and the band's passion for the music is evident.

This CD has a great mix of traditional songs and originals. Actually, I couldn't tell the originals from the covers without looking at the liner notes (except the couple songs i recognized).

And the music seems to appeal to everyone. I saw a live show a couple months ago...WOW! I dragged along a couple friends who don't listen to country/bluegrass and they really got into it and ended up buying CDs too. (After the show I bought the newer CD, Weary Blues, and it's great too).

I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is moved by music...and if you're not, this might be the CD to change that!

What a super CD. I've seen them several times in person and it just gets better and better. This CD is a combination of Texas Folk (Alt.), bluegrass and counrty. The music is superb, the voices are great, the personalities are fun...just a great mix all around. What a great road trip CD!

The Weary Boys are awesome, if you truly love real country- this band is for you. They have an old sound and tons of energy. The combination really rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars the way it's meant to be, June 23, 2002

It's perfect. I can only describe it as the best toe tappin' country music. Makes you want to get up and dance. The only problem is that it's too short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Music, May 11, 2002
This review is from: The Weary Boys (Audio CD)
If you like blue grass music you'll love this CD.

If you're not sure if you like blue grass music, try this CD, its a great starting point.

If you the type who likes many different kinds of music as long as it's done and the musicians are in love with their instruments and their genre, this is a CD for you.

this cd has it all. From the fiddle to the banjo. all of the songs are easy to listen to, and my personal favorite is, "Pick Up the Steam" written by Mario Matteoli. well I could go on and on about the weary boys and their cd, but I won't because I want you to have time to listen to this wonderful bluegrass cd.
