Nice book perfect for 5th or 6th grade research papers, October 21, 2009
This review is from: Weather (Make it Work! Geography) (Hardcover)
My 6th grade child used this book as one source for a research project involving weather forecasts. I highly recommend this book for its interesting, visually stimulating overview on key weather topics. It has 2-page sections covering 21 topics including: the making of weather; heat and climate; the seasons; air temperature and pressure; wind; the water cycle; clouds; types of precipitation; types of storms; weather maps and forecasts; and the changing climate. Each page has many nice graphics and photos, and the book includes several simple experiments/projects with photos and step by step instructions (e.g., making a radiometer, a water thermometer, a barameter, a weather vane, an anemometer, etc).
The book provides a solid foundation for students learning about weather for the first time. Other books were needed for more detailed scientific info for the research paper. I recommend those by Ross Reynolds, the DK publisher's "e.guides: Weather", and Alvin Silverstein et. al.'s "Weather and Climate" for 5th - 7th grade students.
