4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, July 17, 2003
By A Customer
This album is simply fantastic from start to finish. The production is nice and clear (thanks to members of the Willard Grant Conspiracy at helm) and there is a strong emphasis on their unique three-way harmonies, which are very reminiscent of Fairport Convetnion, especially on the powerful "Windshield", which is better than anything the Fairports did after Full House. However, on his own, lead singer Anthony Loffredio warbles and strains his voice in a way which Neil Young and Jay Farrar would be jealous.
As you may have already noticed, it is very to slip into a worn groove in "alt-country", however barn Burning steers clear of being easily pidgeonholed into any classification, by their songwriting and powerful, impassioned performances. The thing that astonishes me about this band is that, although the frontman is very evident in their sound, they never ever sound like a backing band for his songs- Barn Burning is a band in every sense of the word. Check them out now, or check them out later, but it is only a matter of time until this band recieves the exposure that they are due.
