My Weathermatic controller was indicating an error on one of my watering zones. In troubleshooting I found the old original (8 years old) solenoid shorted out. This was an easy replacement and it worked fine. The new solenoid does make a buzzing noise which does not seem to be a problem altough I've don't recall any of my old ones doing it.
Remember to get new water tight wire nuts at the hardware store to replace the old ones as they are one time use only.

As usual when I can't find an item locally I can find it on Amazon.com. And I did. The Weathermatic solenoid for an in-groud valve in my irrigation system was available and reasonably priced. My order was promptly processed, and the solenoid arrived soon after. It was the correct item, and it's working just fine.
