Grade 4-6-- Kahl quotes Ben Franklin (``Some people are weatherwise, but most are otherwise'') in the opening pages of this introduction to weather. By the end of this book, most readers will be a good deal more knowledgeable about the subject, having learned about the atmosphere, precipitation, winds, storms, and forecasting. Additionally, relevant environmental issues are touched upon. While so many subjects in one book do not allow for great depth, there are enough facts here for those seeking a general understanding and those doing reports. The information is broader and better organized than Cosgrove's Weather (Knopf, 1991) from the ``Eyewitness'' series.
