My copy of "Weave Wrap Coil" arrived today by post and I've been browsing through it for the last 3 hours:)....mesmerised,delighted and inspired:)!I cannot but begin by thanking Jodi for the wonderful projects she's shared in the book, with amazing thoughts, and therefore insights, for readers to be able to create the projects in the most unflustered manner possible.

The book begins with a patient, detailed introduction and insight into tools of trade and various techniques that would be used to create the projects shared in the book. The photos are clear and the sketches are precise and very useful. Each project begins with a note about her Design Inspiration, followed by Project notes, where she gives an insight into what might be useful to keep in mind when creating a specific piece ,and also any special tips to calculate wire measurements to precision, wherever needed...and this sure is a very valuable inclusion.to me,it is a sign of a thoughtful artist, designer and writer who's gone out of her way to enable her readers to create what she promises can be created.

The projects are categorized into Beginner,Intermediate and Advanced levels and graduate beautifully from one project level to the next. There are lots of rings to be created and techniques to be practised at each level. They're all equally fascinating and promise to be a great launching pad to create one's own ring designs,if one makes each of the rings presented in this book. The pendants, earrings and the bracelets are very fascinating too.The beads and stones and other supplies included in some of the projects are easily available.

First, the good stuff. The photos are excellent. Good close-ups that show details clearly. Most of the diagrams are also reasonably clear, with a few exceptions, which I'll address later. It's also useful that the author has taken the time to categorize projects by beginner, intermediate, advanced. That's not always easy to judge by looking at the finished project, so it's nice she's made an effort to take the guess work out of it.

Now the not so good. I'm not sure who makes the call about whether to describe something as a beginner or intermediate project, but the very first one in the book, the Diamond Pendant, is described as for beginners. Not so much. I am not a beginner and this project was frustrating and ultimately unsuccessful for a number of reasons. She does give measurements for how much wire to cut, but I find that it was usually inaccurate, and I've now tried about half a dozen projects. Usually, the amt. given is a underestimate. When making smaller items like jewelry component (e.g., pendants, earrings, etc.) size and scale are important. So if the directions call for making a loop on each end of a 4.5 inch wire, it's important to at least give some ballpark idea of how big a loop. Should I use the tips of the round nose pliers, go half-way up? Eyeball it? This is a good way to end up without enough wire or with proportions that are out of whack. That's a problem all through the book. The Diamond Pendant calls for fitting two diamond shaped weaving frames one inside the other and doing some coiling and weaving to connect the two. This calls for working in a very tight space, VERY tricky for a beginner. There's also a lot of taping, removing taping, etc. to access different areas of the pendant for weaving.

I Think this is a very good book to learn about coiling and how to use this technique to make earings, bracelets, some pendants and stunning rings. It has up to date desings, very clear step by step instructions, pictures and diagrams, and also it's a good source of inpiration to go beyond into this way of making jewelry

I was lost on how to start on certain methods and this book helped me out a lot. It was so simple that my daughter joins in and makes things for her friends. She is 7, This is a great reference book for those needing one. I recommend this to anyone starting out. As you get better with techniques you will use it less but I am one of those that never gets rid of a good reference book. Simple and easy directions with great illustrations and pictures.

I have been dabbling in many different types of jewelry and other crafts since age 11, and this book was exactly the perfect one I was looking for to get back into wireworking. There are tutorials abound online about weaving, wrapping, and coiling, but most wire wrappers want you to join a "club" to access them. Other books have some of either weaving, wrapping or coiling, but usually only brief instructions in passing or else thrown in with stringing or other beading. This one book gathers all three methods, and how to do each of them together. I love the beautiful array of projects included and the concise instructions are beautifully laid out. I found so many projects that I can't wait to work on, and now the only problem is figuring which one to start with. Buy this book! You will not be sorry!
