The turrets do not have a 'positive' click when doing this.

Mil markings and the front focal plane make it easy to range distances, and I like the fact that the reticle grows as I zoom in for long range shooting.

I thoroughly like the Optic's build quality, glass clarity, controls, weight and brightness settings....it's a nice piece of kit.

My first impression is that Weaver Tactical scopes, although not inexpensive, represent tremendous value. This illuminated reticle, first focal plane rifle scope, will sit atop my FN SCAR 17s. I wanted an intermediate range of magnification, so I could leave the scope at 1X most of the time, like a red dot scope. But should I want to focus on something further away, I can dial it up to 5X, and rely on the extra magnification to make a more precision shot. It's a bit heavier than some, and my BOBRO quick-release mount adds to that weight, as well. But overall, this "intermediate range" optic deserves anyone's consideration if looking for a well-made rifle scope in this range! The CIRT reticle is awesome (Weaver's proprietary design, I'm told). Very fast acquisition of targets at near and far distances. Another added feature is that spare batteries (2), can be stored aboard the scope under the turrets for windage/elevation. Red or Green illumination can be selected, and the degree of illumination is plenty for even midday sunlight. All in all, I'm very pleased with this scope. The icing on the cake was that Weaver offered a $100 rebate during the time I purchased this.

I purchased this item after a month or so of research on the Internet. I wanted a FFP optic with a true 1x and an illuminated reticle. I also wanted to stay under $750. I've owned lots of glass in my life from Leupold, Aimpoint, Eotech, Vortex and Steiner so I'm not unfamiliar with decent quality optics. The Weaver 1x5 tactical illuminated scope is a good buy for the money. I thoroughly like the Optic's build quality, glass clarity, controls, weight and brightness settings....it's a nice piece of kit. I do however have some issues with the vendor. I picked mine up for $656 from Amazon.com with free shipping. Free shipping essentially means we have the item in stock and we'll ship it when ever the hell we feel like it (12 days after purchase) When I opened the shipping box it appeared that the Weaver box had been opened and closed several times and the edges were worn and bent. I only bring this up because the scope itself had ring marks on it. This tells me it's a returned item that someone either didn't like or its defective. I plan on shooting over it this weekend to make a determination on that and will repost after I'm done.
I mounted the Optic on a 12 inch LWRC M6A2 so I'll be putting a a few different loads thru the gun to see which round fits the internal BDC. The reticle looks clear at every brightness setting with the exception of the red reticle at 1x at it's highest brightness setting (5). At that setting the reticle, albeit small, looks just a tad fuzzy even after adjusting the front focal lens on the front bell.
First impression of the Optic is very high but not at all impressed with Amazon.com. Will add to this review after shooting over it.

Pros: Clear glass, good reticle design, solid feel.
Cons: Illumination leaves a little to be desired. The illuminated reticle is not visible in bright daylight in either color at 1x (I live in the desert). Even on the lowest illumination setting, the green is too bright to use in low light. The low setting red illumination works well for low light. Set to zero turret design is accomplished by simply pulling up on the turrets, setting to zero, then pushing them back down. The turrets do not have a 'positive' click when doing this. This is the only thing that feels kind of cheap on the scope. The problem is the zero set could easily be unintentionally rotated.
Suggestions: I think this scope would be greatly improved by having single color illumination with more adjustability. 10 brightness settings of a single color instead of 5 brightness settings with two colors. The zero set needs to have a more positive engagement.

If you own an AR, this is the scope you need. At 1X it performs perfectly as a red dot. Some ppl say you can't see the illuminated reticle (both red and green) in daylight, but point it at a target and it easily shows up (they must be pointing it at the sky), plus it's true 1X so it's easy to keep both eyes open. 5X gives you more magnification than the 1-4s, and the folks at Weaver put a lot of thought into the reticle - it's designed specifically for the .223/5.56 calibers. Mil markings and the front focal plane make it easy to range distances, and I like the fact that the reticle grows as I zoom in for long range shooting. Check out the reticle design: http://www.weaveroptics.com/downloads/WO267_CIRT_Reticle_11_x_8-5.pdf.
