Book Description

Fifteen-year old Alex Cronlord just met the boy of her dreams. Literally. Unfortunately, the dream involved him killing her. When she encounters him at her school the next morning, Alex understandably freaks out-and her mother's bizarre behavior only makes it worse. What Alex doesn't realize is that she can see the future-which will get her into a whole lot of trouble.

Across town, FBI Agent Moira McBain and her partner Andy Hall investigate a series of house burnings in Dallas, Texas. When a clue leads them to the Cronlords, Moira discovers a disturbing link between Alex's family and her own-which opens an old wound Moira has spent years trying to ignore.

Something is rotten in Dallas, Texas-something involving a secret society, children with extraordinary powers, and human-looking creatures who might literally be out of this world....

5.0 out of 5 stars A great summertime read! August 13, 2011
By smmc
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is wonderful, light reading. The story is fast paced with little in the way of lows or downtime for the characters. It makes it hard to put down until you find you're suddenly finished with the book.

The influence of Mr. J. Whedon is very apparent in the young, female heroine. (Something that's a common theme in Whedon's more popular works to date -- that being young female heroines who save the day, fighting against brutal odds to win the day for herself and her friends.)

I want to read more from this little 'verse now. I sincerely hope that 'saga' means there's more to come!

Book Info: Genre: Urban Fantasy
Reading Level: Young Adult
Recommended for: Fans of YA urban fantasy
Trigger Warnings: assault, murder

My Thoughts: After reading the first two books in the Hunter Gamble series by this author, I just had to read this other book I had by him.

This is a really good book of its type. I don't always like YA and this has a few of the faults that keep me from fully enjoying YA novels, like teenagers that do sort of stupid things. It's mitigated in this book (view spoiler), so it's fairly bearable, but it's there. Thus the loss of a star.

But overall, I enjoyed the book a great deal. There were a couple of moments that surprised me a lot, things I absolutely did not see coming, and I would like to continue this series. Another book is available in this series, The Void, but I do not yet have it. Anyway, if you like young adult urban fantasies, definitely give this one a try.

Disclosure: I picked up a copy of this e-book from Amazon when it was on a KDP promotion. All opinions are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner August 17, 2011

The WEAVER captured me from the opening paragraph and sustained its tension throughout. This book is a page-turner. The characters are rich, the plot engrossing. I heartily recommend to anyone who likes a good science fiction yarn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good. January 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mystery and suspense are my usual book genres, though I've read nearly all of Stephen King and most of Dean Koontz. "Weaver" looked interesting enough to try, since it was free. After all, it has an FBI team investigating to keep it real. Very well written, a fast-paced story that will keep you turning the pages. John Abramowitz has a wonderful imagination that draws you in. I will continue with this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weaving a tale December 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This interesting and fairly different tale finds plenty for those who like conspiracy theories and crazy "religious" cults. The focal character is only a teenager when she discovers that her dreams are prophetic and that she is the object of the hunt by more than one group of fringe lunatics. The quick read is entertaining even if a bit far-fetched. Still, it does let the reader escape the doldrums of everyday life for a brief time.

I don't have much interest in reading the second book because I wasn't overly impressed with the story line in this book. Decent but not fantastic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
A good book, but kind of bland. Could be better. Needs more imagination. More happening. More surprises. Maybe the next book in the series will be better

The writing is awkward. He needs to work on his descriptions. He crams in too many. He especially needs to watch the contradictions and redundancies. Read more

Interesting concept. Quick read. Likable characters. A little slow paced at times. Could use a little more character building and action.

More About the Author

I am a long, tall Texan (very, very tall) born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Educated at Grinnell College in the great state of Iowa, I consider Iowa my second home state, and keep on good terms with both by eating barbecue AND corn. When I'm not watching way too much sci-fi/fantasy TV or reading similar books (or working, obviously), you can usually find me reading the news or playing video games. I currently live in Austin, Texas, where I work as a lawyer and author.

Everything I really need to know about storytelling, I learned from Joss Whedon (who influences my work), but I'm also a huge fan of suspense thrillers (which also influence my work), musicals (which, if I could write a musical novel, I'd be all over that), and parentheses (of which there are way too many in this bio).

As of April 16, 2013, I will be the author of four full-length novels (Weaver, The Void, Atticus for the Undead, and Identity Theft), as well as The Antlerbury Tales, a short story.

I plan to spend 2013 polishing off The Weaver Saga, which has 2 more books in it. Expect Book 3, "Flames," soon.

Stay tuned for more exciting projects in the months to come!
