Weaving Magic was inspired by a poetry and YA literature workshop at Denney Juvenile Justice Center. The detention center workshop meets on a regular basis and includes both boys and girls units. In the poetry workshop, teens write about their lives and experiences. We read young adult novels and memoirs and incorporate this reading with our writing. The youth's poetry has been published in four chapbooks as well as their blog.

This is such a great book. From the first page, I was hooked. Hooked on Ms. Hardwick's writing style, hooked on the story, and hooked on the characters. The story deals with delicate emotional problems that teens are faced with. I found myself routing for Christopher and Shantel right out of the gate. I highly recommend this book and promise you won't be disappointed!

Excellent book for all ages but especially teen living in various ways with alcoholism and drug addiction. Realistic dialogue between characters who are firmly defined. Also a realistic teen romance. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Susan Lampe
