About the Author

Zoe Gillenwater is an experienced web designer, project manager, and technical author, active in the web standards community. She uses her expert knowledge of CSS, XHTML, Dreamweaver, accessibility, and visual design in all aspects of her career. Zoe loves teaching web design as much as she loves learning and doing it herself. As a partner at Community MX, a web development training site, she contributes articles and tutorials on a variety of web design topics. She focuses on CSS, XHTML, Dreamweaver, and accessibility, as well as web page templates and forum support. Zoe is also the editor for Adobe's CSS Advisor website. Due to her involvement with accessibility and other web standards, Zoe was invited to be a member of the Adobe Task Force of the advocacy group Web Standards Project (WaSP). As a government employee, she became skilled in not only ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance for all her projects, but also going beyond to meet many of the W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative WCAG guidelines. Zoe sees web accessibility as a web development best practice in its own right, regardless of rules and regulations.

Format: CD-ROM
I started a site for a contractor and it became clear that it needed to be accessible to visually and mobility impaired users. There is little in one place to use as a resource, but Web Accessibility Principles covers just about everything you need to know and understand for a good foundation.

Not only is it well organized, but it demystifies liquid layouts and and a lot of other issues, such as %'s vs. pixels vs. ems, etc. It also does a great job of using Dreamweaver CS3 to accomplish building this type of site (and it's also very visually appealing). My personal exercise validated for html and css which is very important to me.

In addition, the author takes you through the steps of acquiring very useful tools - for example experiencing a site as heard by a person using a screen reader(a real eye-opener when you think you've designed a beautiful page!)

The price of this product is extremely reasonable (if not downright cheap) given the wealth of information and tips it contains and I highly recommend it.

Yes, it is that important to include this video in your library if you are doing any type of web work. This DVD covers step by step hands on examples of just how to make your material accessible to the widest audience. It is the law to have accessible sites in many situations, but more than that, it is the right thing to do. Regardless of experience and skill level, this is one of those important titles that no web or content designer/developer should be without. She has another great title that I would highly recommend as well, Flexible Web Design: Creating Liquid and Elastic Layouts with CSS

Format: CD-ROM
This is by far the most straight forward, yet detailed, easy to follow CD-ROM about web accessibility principles. Highly suited for new starters or those who need a refresher course. The author is quite clearly skilled and knowledgeable in web Accessibility and CSS, and she illustrates this in a highly professional manner. I've study this CD-ROM three times now and it's a great one to have in your library.
