Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a book that blends history, advice, and insight into a tool that can be used either as an introduction to Web-based training or as a field guide for every training developer.... Margaret Driscoll is uniquely qualified to produce such a high-quality addition to every training manager's library." —Cushing Anderson, program manager, Learning Services Research

"I recommend this book to everyone who asks me for e-learning resources. Its descriptions are clear, its recommendations are practical, and it helps e-learning practitioners, new and experienced, focus on one of the most overlooked parts of e-learning — instructional design." —Dawn Adams, content development manager, Microsoft

"Besides my books, this is the only one worth reading. Want to know what Web-based training and e-learning are? You can spend five years mucking around, or you can read this book." —William Horton, author, Designing Web-Bassed Training, Leading E-Learning, and Evaluating E-Learning

"Offers updated insights and sound advice. Explains the universals of training...while preparing readers for the change in e-learning, including the rise of mobile computing and educommerce, and the growing link with knowledge management." —Saul Carliner, author, An Overview of Online Learning

"A must-have book for anyone who has responsibility for ensuring that e-learning is successful in their organization. It not only provides the information and the tools you'll need, but through the exercises you'll be able to gain critical first-hand experience." —Lance E. Dublin, Lance Dublin Consulting

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-buy for 'Pedagogist-Technologists', October 25, 2002
This review is from: Web-Based Training: Creating e-Learning Experiences (Paperback)
The people in the e-learning industry could be divided largely into three camps - the Pedagogists, the Technologists and the Pedagogist-Technologists (people who bridge the two apparently divergent worlds). :-)

IMHO, Dr Margaret Driscoll is a Pedagogist-Technologist - a wonderfully excellent one! After ploughing through dozens of good and not-so-good books on e-learning, I find this book (which I borrowed from a campus library) a treasure trove. I strongly recommend this book to any serious e-learning practitioner (novice or experienced) who is looking for succinct and practical information, as well as pedagogically and technologically sound tips - this book is loaded with summaries, templates, worksheets, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, December 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Web-Based Training: Creating e-Learning Experiences (Paperback)
I was impressed, enlightened and inspired while reading this book. If you are in any way connected to developing training of any type I would highly recommend this book. Training Managers and HR/Manager types can learn much from this book as well. The CD that comes with is a huge help, all in all well worth the price.

As a career trainer/educator, I speak from experience to you managers out there...if you are thinking of cutting resources or entirely removing your education department...DON'T!!! Get some folks that are smart, passionate and have read this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for class - hardly used, January 15, 2012

The material covered in this book can easily be found on the web for free. Internet links, that were provided as examples, were out of date or completely dead. Too bad that I was required to have this book for the class. I could have saved myself time and money.
