True listing of the best web design in the world,
This review is from: Web Design Index 6 (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful resource for designers, graphic designers and anyone searching for the best web design companies.
It lists quite a few US based companies that are raising the standards, I visited some the sites and was pleasantly amazed by their portfolios. Web design has come a long way since we all knew a cousin, neighbor or friend who could "build a website", now we finally see a great breach between true designers and developers, and those who put information together and place it online. The book gives plenty of great options and serves as a studying tool, and reference for designers seeking great inspiration. It is fascinating!

Best in its category if you need ideas only,
This review is from: Web Design Index 6 (Paperback)
I take a look at this book from time to time, but do not expect much from the attached CD, these books will give you ideas but will not teach you anything new.
If you are a copy cat it is not for you also, just flip through the book to buffer some ideas and be creative. I can't understand why over 30% of the book contains rubbish samples - who put them there ... I do not know. The series is nice to keep

Very useful book for web designers,
By A. Taylor (Vancouver, B.C.) - See all my reviews

I was very happy to find this book in a local bookstore, and plan to buy the 7th edition. I've been designing web sites for two years, and usually find it more difficult to get the "look" of the site right than the code. I can spend hours online looking through the haystack that is the Internet, trying to find decent sites to emulate or to show as examples to clients.
This book has hundreds of examples of attractive and stylish web sites, ordered roughly by colour, which is going to save me a lot of time. I can take it to a client meeting and get their opinion on what kind of sites they like and why. I think the editor has found a good balance between contemporary style, and not being too "out there" for most clients.

A Waste of Money,

This book is not going to show you websites that push the boundaries of web design. Instead, it is going to give you a bunch of conversative websites programmed in HTML and CSS. There are a few FLASH sites available, but those are very amateur-looking so don't expect to see anything amazing in terms of aesthetics, navigation, and information. You can expect a bunch of portfolios designed by individuals and small businesses that are just starting out.
