Book Description

1592006078 978-1592006076 December 1, 2004 1
"Web Design for Teens" focuses on the creation and design of Web sites. Using HTML and some basic Web design programs, the book teaches the reader how to skillfully go from a blank slate (such as in Notepad) to a professionally designed Web site. As more and more teenagers and preteens learn about Web sites early in their school years, there is clearly a market for this teen-focused book. Schools are teaching HTML and Web design as early as fifth and sixth grade. Starting with the basics, readers learn the components of a clean web site and what goes into it. Readers then continue on to HTML, Web site design and to how to purchase a domain name as well as host a Web site so others can view it on the Internet. Readers will also be able to take the lessons from the book and build upon them to create even better and more complex sites. In addition, the book provides some directions on how to expand a Web site through JavaScript, Perl, or other scripting languages. Written from the perspective of a teen who, himself, has found success in the world of technology, this book appeals to the young reader in an informative, yet accessible, tone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Web Design for Teens by Maneesh Sethi, December 25, 2004

Gaetano (Woodbury, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Web Design for Teens (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book and I must first admit that I am not a teenager. I am well into my 70"s and I rationalized that if a teenager could master this web design stuff I should be able to at least come close.

I am about half way into the book and I am very pleased with my progress. I can now grasp the basics of HTML source. The book also introduced me to a web site that allows you to create a web design automatically.(yet, displays the source code, if you wish to see pure HTML.) Its great!

The book also tells you how to put your completed web design on line. If you ask yourself what web site a 70+ old male could design that is worth while, just you wait. It will be unique and best of all it will be my own design!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on web design out there!, March 2, 2005
By
This review is from: Web Design for Teens (Paperback)
Web Design For Teens is by far one of the best web design books out there today. I my self got this book as a Christmas gift, read it in two days, and started chugging away making website not only for myself, but also for friends and family. Let's talk a little bit more about the book though. Web Design For Teens starts you off at the very first step of simple web creation using html. The very first chapters of the book are dedicated to the fundamentals of web site creation such as color, background, font, images, etc. These chapters are very well written and deliver to the reader a very precise and detailed "picture" of just how to execute these tasks. After to read though some of the book a program is introduced to you name NVU. (If you're wondering what that is, get the book! You'll find out!). After this brief explanation of the program the book changes and delivers to you both ways of creating elements of the website that you would typically see, that is in both html and in NVU. Web Design For Teens also includes a section about how to get your site hosted and how to get traffic. Well that about sums it up for what the book delivers to you, now let's talk about HOW it delivers it to you.
I thought that this book was particularly helpful because it contained some very useful ways to view the information given, for example: this book contains helpful tips, cautions, notes (which just view the same information but take it much deeper), sidebars (which are just long explanations of what is happening in the book), definitions, and maxims (which are just some basic things that you should do to have a good website). I found these items very helpful while reading the book, because they gave me a better understanding of how to do the stuff.
If you are just starting to get interested in website design but do not know where to start of even what to include on your page I would highly recommend picking this book up at your nearest book store. This book is after all Web Design For Teens and thus, is written in a language we can all understand.
If you are a veteran site designer I would not recommend picking this book up unless you feel the need to return to the basics and review all of the fundamentals, as well as learn some great tips, that you would need for your website.
In conclusion I think that this book is an excellent book whether you are just starting to get involved in the thrilling world of website design or just need a good book for reference. I would give this book a 9.5 out of 10!

2.0 out of 5 stars friendly, but out of date, October 20, 2011
This review is from: Web Design for Teens (Paperback)
The book is easy to read and successfully conveys its content. Unfortunately, much of that content was not considered "best practices" when it was written (2004) and is definitely BAD design now. It teaches font tags and tables instead of CSS.

Someone learning web design today should buy a newer book.
