Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In their introduction, the authors of the Web Graphics Sourcebook claim that aside from a computer and a Web browser, "everything . . . you need is in this book and on the [accompanying] CD-ROM." They are mostly right. The CD-ROM includes a variety of useful Macintosh and PC freeware and shareware tools such as text editors, a WYSIWYG HTML utility, graphics applications, and media utilities. The only element missing from this book is inspiration--the skeleton of instruction is present, but the soul of suggestion is nowhere to be found. If you are familiar with the basics of HTML, want one book, and like the convenience of having the tools provided on the CD, then this is probably the book for you. Web Graphics Sourcebook does go to great lengths in describing the function and application of everything from Paint Shop Pro, probably the most widely-used shareware graphics application, to Shockwave, the Web extension of Macromedia's Director, a multimedia authoring tool. This book covers VRML and some Java, as well as alternative file formats such as Adobe Acrobat and Novell Envoy. An extensive directory of additional resources--physical addresses and URLs--is also provided.

By A Customer
This review is from: Web Graphics Sourcebook (Paperback)
The pages of this book are so badly designed that I couldn't force my eyes to read it. How can the authors' advice on graphics, layout and design be credible when their book design is so obviously lacking?
