hides HTML from you, March 27, 2008
This review is from: Web Guru Guide to Dreamweaver MX 2004 (Paperback)
Dreamweaver is a powerful webpage layout tool. Learning it is non-trivial. But Campbell starts you from scratch, assuming no prior acquaintance with it. He shows how to quickly produce interesting page layouts.
In fact, as the book reveals, you don't even need previous exposure to the underlying HTML that actually constitutes webpages. As Campbell puts it, Dreamweaver might be considered better than Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe GoLive. It automatically makes the HTML text when you design a page within it. Then, later, you can edit that page manually, out Dreamweaver, if you need to tweak some layout details. Dreamweaver terms this Roundtrip HTML. Essentially, it has custom tags and comment tags within HTML. So it can load an existing Roundtrip HTML file that was earlier made by another instance of Dreamweaver.
However, for much of this book, you don't to go to those extremes. As mentioned above, Dreamweaver shields you from directly coding HTML. So that you can concentrate on higher level issues of layout.
