1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't Recommend
I purchased this book because I am starting a web hosting company. I already knew a lot of what I needed to know but wanted a book to guide me through some of the more "hairy" pieces of this business. Instead what I got was a broad overview.

I may keep it around to show my family what I'm doing but I certainly won't be using it to help me with my...

I may keep it around to show my family what I'm doing but I certainly won't be using it to help me with my business.

I certainly would not call it "A complete strategy" as is stated on the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellant coverage of web hosting for IT and businesses, April 2, 2002
This review is from: Web Hosting (Paperback)
This book covers alot of territory, from covering the many types of web hosts, to infrastructure and security considerations (including example policies and procedures), domain registrars, to enhancing customer service and support, developing hosting partnerships, to becoming a reseller. I especially liked the comparison of different technologies, in an easy to understand way. For businesses, it provides an indepth coverage of the market, types of technologies (ASP, JSP, PHP, etc.) and how to decide on the type of web host(s) that will best meet their business goals. Is filled with online references, and a handy appendix section. Recommend highly as a resource guide for IT consultants, web host newbies and professionals, and businesses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall good information, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Web Hosting (Paperback)
I've read nearly every title out there on web hosting, and Carl Burnham's book is an informative read. Yes, it's a little simplistic in approach, but I don't think he wanted to take for granted that you knew everything there was to know before reading his book. If you did, why would you need to read the book? If you're going to read this, also get The Complete Web Hosting Kit Professional by Ken Joy. It not only contains a complete how-to guide, but also comes with the web hosting and e-mail software ready to use out of the box.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather simplistic, October 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Web Hosting (Paperback)
I found this book to be overly simplistic; it does not go into much detail in any area. As I will be joining a Web Hosting company, I was looking for something to get me up to speed on this subject. Unfortunately it is mainly general advice in here, and not the nitty gritty I was looking for.

Carl Burnham's "Web Hosting" is a fine piece. It has the essential ingredients that will improve your Web structuring ability: whether you are an amateur or a professional. His methods, as well as strategies, seemed success-bound. Although that there is no guarantee in any Web venture, I will not rate this book low.
