CAUGHT BETWEEN FEAR AND FAITH,
By Chris Well (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
Best-selling suspense novelist Brandilyn Collins continues her string of compelling faith fiction with Web of Lies, a harrowing forensic thriller that pinpoints the collision between fear and faith.
Annie Kingston, a forensic artist, teams up with Chelsea Adams, a woman who receives terrifying visions from God -- as the two find themselves trying to rescue two kidnapped people before they are murdered by a psychotic killer with a spider obsession. Web of Lies deals frankly with the struggles of a Christian in professional life -- especially when that professional life includes murderous lunatics, arrogant lawmen and irresponsible journalists. Brandilyn Collins once again proves herself a master of the page-turner. Just make sure your doors are locked and you've said your prayers for the night -- because once you open to the first page, you are in for the ride of your life.

What Lies Ahead?,
By
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
Brandilyn Collins is a sure thing. Pick up one of her books and you know you're in for a suspenseful read.
Once again, in "Web of Lies," Collins gives us believable characters and frightening scenarios. She masterfully weaves together the main characters from two separate series, giving them individual voices and motivations. Joining forces, using their spiritual and physical skills/gifts, they take on the chilling mystery behind an uncovered skull and a vindictive killing. Personally, I think "Dead of Night" is still my favorite in the Hidden Faces series, but this newest installment is right up there. It rushes a bit, trying to tie all the loose ends and the concerns of the two main characters, but it does so with skill. In the Christian market, we now have some fantastic female suspense writers in Collins, Kathryn Mackel, and Melanie Wells. I can't see what else lies ahead.

Gotta read it!,

What happens when you take the main characters from two separate series and throw them in a book together? A masterfully woven tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Brandilyn Collins has taken Chelsea Adams from an earlier series (Eyes of Elisha and it's sequel Dread Champion.) and put her into the fourth book in the Hidden Faces series with Annie Kingston. Oh, yes and I would be remiss to not mention the spiders... can you say, "Give me the creeps"? This book rocks, just like the rest of her books do.

My first taste,
By Galora_K (Central NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
How could I have not ever read a book by Brandilyn Collins????? Her mix of crimes & Christianity totally enthralled me. My only complaint? This was the last book in what appears to be two different series. Ack! Of course I had to run out and get all the books I missed because I loved this one so much!
Web of Lies brings together forensic artist Annie Kingston and "visionary" Chelesa Adams, closing out two different series. The "Hidden Faces" series which revolves around Annie and the "Chelesa Adams" series. What an incredible idea! As a reader who devours every book written by an author I like the concept of wrapping up two series with one book is awesome. I tend to fall in love with all the books I read and I always wonder what would happen if characters from different series were able to interact. Annie Kingston has witnessed a shooting in broad daylight. Several hours away God has show Chelsea Adams a horrible vision of a murder about to take place. Bring the two women together and what happens? Layer upon layer of faith and terror as the women race to uncover a murderer who wants to get personal with one of them. What can I say. Web of Lies is a page turner! It's well paced, action packed and accurately portrays the challenges of faith I believe someone in that situation might have. Thank you Christian Fiction Blog Tour! I've found yet another new author. Barnes & Nobles also thanks you because I've dropped a few extra bucks there this week buying Ms. Collin's other books! If you've read Christian fiction in the past and it left a bad taste in your mouth - check out this "Seatbelt Suspense". It'll totally change your mind!!

Heart-stopping suspense,
By Marie DisBrow "wildernesswriter" (Southeastern Alaska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
Brandilyn Collins never disappoints her readers. Tension and suspense increase moment by moment, and readers will identify with her fully-developed characters-and care about what happens to them.
In Web of Lies, the fourth book in her Hidden Faces series, Collins brings back the character from her first two suspense novels, Chelsea Adams, who has visions of crimes. She and Annie Kingston work together to find a murderer and rescue his victims. Collins does an excellent job of showing her characters' individual voices. The majority of the story is told from Annie's perspective in first person point of view, and Chelsea's is in third person. Now and then the reader is allowed into the villian's mind with short chapters in boldface type. A challenging writing form, but the reader will always be sure from which perspective the story is "seen." I love the way Collins makes her Christian characters true to life. No self-righteous or "perfect" people here, just humans with faults and foibles, and mixtures of doubts and faith. I highly recommend Web of Lies. If you love heart-stopping suspense, this author is for you. Arachnophobics, beware!

Now she's a literary contortionist!,

This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
You always know that Brandilyn Collins will provide you with a great read. You know, the kind that interrupts the rest of life. You stay up too late, don't cook, decide you need a "nap" in the afternoon, call in sick.... You can't wait until it's over so you can get back to real life.
Well, she's done it again. Web of Lies will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. And to add a little interest, she's done the "almost impossible," bringing together the heroines and back stories from both of her suspense series and telling the story from three points of view. She's truly a literary contortionist. But it all hangs together and draws you into a different world. Unfortunately, one populated by spiders. Just go read it.

Hang on!,

When Chelsea and Annie meet, they take us on a journey of a lifetime. From spiders to skulls and skeletons, Web of Lies has it all. Collins takes her reader on a roller coaster of emotion as Annie and Chelsea team up to find a killer, and in the process find themselves on a road that endangers not only them, but Annie's precious Kelly. Who is friend? Who is foe? You won't know until the end then it's "Wow! How did she do that?"
This is a must read for those who like spine-tingling suspense that pulls you into the middle of the terror. Not for the faint-hearted.

DON'T READ TOO FAST!,
By Cynthia Hickey "Cynthia Hickey" (AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
Eight legged creepy crawlies. A homicidal maniac who watches your every move. Sound like fun? In Brandilyn Collins's, Web of Lies, the reader is taken on a ride of high velocity in page after page of suspense. Two of Brandilyn's prior heroines are brought together in a horrifying murder. One of them sees a murder in a vision, while the other sees a murder life-startling and face-to-face. Are these murders related, or is this just a means of bringing these two women together? When the murderer hits close to home, these two women must rely on the power of prayer, and each other.
I found myself having too slow down while reading this book. The action happens so quickly, that I often read too fast to see what would happen next. I recommend you take a chunk of time, your favorite chair and a stout heart. This book is a must read.

WEB OF LIES... A Real Page-turner!,
By Toby Martin II (aka R. Howe) "rchowe" (Erskine, Minnesota United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Web of Lies (Hidden Faces Series #4) (Paperback)
The fourth, and concluding, book in Brandilyn Collins' "Hidden Faces" series--
WEB OF LIES--is yet another excellent effort by this extraordinarily talented mystery and suspense author. While apparently some overlook her works--as they do with those of Terri Blackstock, James Scott Bell, and others--simply because they include underlying testimony to a strong Christian faith--these page-turning novels match, and often surpass those written by best-selling secular authors. Try one or two and prove it to yourself...these are very special books! --R. Howe (aka `Toby Martin, II) Erskine, MN. |
