Lemay wisely begins her explanations with nontechnical items. She explains the importance of planning a Web site's organization and provides the information to help you map out your pages. From there, Lemay shows how to build your skills, starting with simple page creation and advancing to more sophisticated skills, such as building image maps and frames.
Each step along the way is clearly explained with illustrative samples. Lemay provides easy-to-follow exercises that allow you to learn by doing. The two quick reference sections--one a two-page "cheat sheet" and the other a more extensive appendix--are particularly handy when you need a rapid jog of the memory while putting your new skills to work on your dream site. --Elizabeth Lewis

May be the most well-written technical book I have ever read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Web Publishing With Html 4 in a Week: Complete Starter Kit (Sams Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
Laura Lemay's no-nonsense writing style was a welcome change from the dry verbosity of most technical books. It is a great beginning book. I am a programmer but had no previous experience with HTML, and the only web experience that I had was as a user. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this book a 9. I would give it a 10, except that it failed to deliver on one, promised point: Setting Up Your Own Web Server. On Day 7 (page 369), it promises that you will be instructed on how to set up your own web server on Day 8. This information is never given. I tried writing to the publisher about this omission but was never even given the courtesy of a reply. If you don't care about setting up your own personal web server, this book will tell you everything else you need to know.

A Fabulous HTML Book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Web Publishing With Html 4 in a Week: Complete Starter Kit (Sams Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
I have been reading lots of HTML-related books lately, and this one is a winner. It explains HTML in a clear manner, and also explains the changes and differences between HTML4 and HTML3, (or 2, etc.) You will learn what HTML tags work now (but are being "phased out") and what tags are the newer, more preferred ones to use, something I have not seen mentioned in other HTML books I have read. In fact, there is alot of stuff in this book that I have not found in any other, (so far.) The book is written in a casual, non-intimidating manner. It is a great resource, with much information regarding web page creation, etc. A real gem.
