A book that offers an awesome crash course and many tips on how to design a small business Web site for maximum marketing punch!,

What a lovely book. I'm really glad I purchased a copy for myself. I'm a SCORE volunteer counselor and quite often my clients ask about Web sites and Web site design, and how to incorporate them into their small business' marketing plan. This book is the one that comes to my mind when I recommend a tome for them to read so I don't have to go into a long-winded sermon on the ins-and-outs of building a Web site. The other book I like a lot is Susan Daffron's book entitled Web Business Success (ISBN: 0974924504). The book has 12 chapters, but I haven't listed them below. The list below includes the topics covered in the book that I have prioritized and grouped the way I would have liked the book to read. 1. How to Design a Web site 2. Add a Blog 3. Add a Podcast 4. Add an Ezine 5. Create eBooks 6. Create audio CDs and DVDs 7. Learn about Shopping Cart technology 8. Learn about RSS technology 9. Learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) 10. Learn about Online Advertising 11. Learn about Online Marketing 12. Learn about Using Amazon to Promote and Sell Your Book My favorite topics were 1, 2, 5, 9 and 11. In my humble opinion they are the meat to putting together a Net presence using a Web site. It is these topics that I recommend my SCORE clients focus on when reading the book. I've tried the ezine thing, and I have found it to be a waste of time and effort. CDs and DVDs are beyond me at this time. But maybe in the future I might consider them as a great marketing vehicle. I think shopping cart technology is good for a retail shop. But an author with only one or two titles may want to skip it. I don't find much use for RSS technology since I don't go heavy on reading blogs. Maybe when there get to be a number of good blogs to read, then I might recommend RSS. I have recently read a few books on using Amazon to promote and sell POD books. I think they were written after this book, and they seem to do a better job covering topic #12 above. Maybe the material on Amazon in this book is a little dated? But I saw a lot of good stuff on Amazon in this book. Consider also checking out Shepard's book entitled Aiming at Amazon (ISBN: 093849743X) and Weber's book entitled Plug Your Book! (ISBN: 0977240614). Don't think that this book is only good for authors who want to use the Net to market their book. The principles and techniques beautifully explained in this book are equally applicable to promoting any business. So any wanta-be entrepreneur that doesn't know much about the Net or Web sites will do themselves a favor by getting this book, reading it, and then studying it. 5 stars!

This book arrived on Thursday and I read the entire thing by Sunday. it is a terrific resource packed with wonderful ideas for using the internet to promote your book. I followed many of the links given in the book and got my book's web site listed in a variety of directories and am in the process of implementing some of her other suggestions.
There is excellent information on how to set up your web site, how to use blogs and RSS feeds, and no small amount of marketing information that would be useful for businesses other than publishing. I almost feel like i don't want to tell everyone how useful this book is because I don't want them all using her tricks! Very well done and useful --- I already set up my Amazon Author's Page. Thanks!

Incredible Internet Marketing resource for authors,

This review is from: The Web-Savvy Writer: Book Promotion with a High-Tech Twist (Paperback)
I'm an Online Business Coach, and I was blown away when I got my copy of Patrice-Anne Rutledge's new book, The Web-Savvy Writer. She takes readers by the hand and walks them through the foreign and often confusing world of Internet Marketing and explains the concepts in plain English with great step-by-step plans to help authors implement these strategies in their book marketing campaigns.
The greatest kudos that I can give this book is that I actually learned about some new resources and a new strategy or two here. I'm pretty well-versed on most Internet Marketing strategies, so when I find a great resource that adds to my knowledge base rather than repeats information that I already know, the resource goes to the top of my recommendation list. I've recommended this book to a number of my clients and colleagues, few of whom are authors. Why? Because the quality of the info provided is useful for ANYONE with an online business.

This book fell short of expectations,

I saw the other great reviews for this book and decided to buy it. I am highly suspect of these reviews. I found this book very basic, almost for people who have no online knowledge at all. To sell books in the online environment, a lot of books, you have to really know the in's and out's of online marketing. I found this book extremely basic and have read better books on this subject.
The video trailer for this book is also very basic and for a so-called internet expert, I would have thought it would be much better. As an author myself, I didnt learn anything new in this book. Sorry for the poor review, but save yourself some money on this book.

A Very Informative And Useful Book,
By
This review is from: The Web-Savvy Writer: Book Promotion with a High-Tech Twist (Paperback)
As the author of a book about how to sell books online, I was already very well versed in the various marketplaces and listing both used and new books for sale, but I felt like something was missing in how I was marketing my own book.
Patrice has put together a very well organized and well written book that is sure to help any author promote their work. I am an engineer and an online bookseller, not a savvy online marketer, but with the approach to marketing online that Patrice has put in her book, I feel I have a much better understanding of how to promote my own book. Now all I have to do is find the time to implement more of her suggestions. If you just finished your own book, or are nearing completion, I encourage you to purchase this book, particularly if you are wanting to promote your book online. I have already implemented a few of the suggestions in Patrice's book and realized increased traffic to my website and a higher Google page rank. For the price, you really cannot go wrong.

I'm in the process (52% complete) of writing my first complete novel. I fully expect I'll end up self-publishing as there aren't many publishers out there who'll take a chance on a near-future, near-space, libertarian SF novel. Especially as it doesn't feature cardboard stereotypical ravenous aliens, mad AI systems or packs of demons, werewolves and fairies. (And how demons, werewolves, magic and fairies would fit into SF I don't have a clue.)
So given this knowledge, I figure I need all the marketing help I can get. Sure, I expect to use Amazon's DTP (Digital Text Platform) to handle the sales and distribution of the ebook version and Amazon's ClearSpace to handle the paper version printing, sales and shipping, but I'll still need to get the word out once I'm ready to release the story. And that's where "The Web-Savvy Writer: Book Promotion With A High-Tech Twist, 2nd Ed." comes in. The author, Patrice-Anne Rutledge, has created a book that will help all self-publishers with methods, hints and tricks to market their works online. Don't pass up the opportunity to put this needed work on your self-publishing bookshelf. Order it today!

This review is from: The Web-Savvy Writer: Book Promotion With A High-Tech Twist, Second Edition (Paperback)
This handy guide features clear, step-by-step instructions to help authors and publishers develop a website that drives book sales, create an online media campaign, conduct a successful virtual book tour that reaches thousands, master social networking sites like Facebook, and much more. I love the way the author writes in non-techie language and uses examples. This book is a must-read for all authors and indie publishers who want to promote online.
