Web of Spies is an extraordinarily rare spy novel in the Killmaster series, written anonymously by Manning Lee Stokes. The title character, Nick Carter, is Agent N3 of AXE, a spy agency for the US government. Agent N3 uses three main weapons: The Gun, Wilhelmina, is a stripped down German Luger which he stole from a German officer during a harrowing mission during WW2. The knife, Hugo, is a pearl handled stiletto, worn on the wrist, and rigged to releas with a simple muscle contraction. And Pierre, the poison gas bomb, a small device, hidden in his undershorts (in case he gets patted down, it is mistaken for his scrotum). The AXE agency is similar to the CIA, but are mostly concerned with assassinations. Nick Carter works with a research & development agent with AXE named, Pointdexter, similar to Q in the 007 series, who supplies him with weapons, gadgets, disguises, and papers.
